They basically have until the end of this month to find a buyer and make the deadline for entry fees

Update:

Marussia has folded.

Despite being named on the provisional entry list for the 2015 F1 season and having been targeting a return in Abu Dhabi, administrator FRP Advisory announced on Friday morning that the team has ceased trading, resulting in the loss of over 200 jobs.

The administrator FRP Advisory admitted: "It goes without saying that it is deeply regrettable that a business with such a great following in British and world motor sport has had to cease trading and close its doors."

I'd thought Caterham was in worse shape than Marussia. Given there's hopes of 60 million or so of prize money of securing P9 on the constructors champion (given caterham and sauber were pretty hopeless this season). That would attract a bit more investors compare to caterham.

In addition, I'd hope Ferrari would help Marussia and Bianchi on his treatment and recovery.

Between that and the 100 million or so that CVC Capital had pledged to put aside to aide the smaller teams, I thought they'd make it through. Struggle for a bit, but make it through. It seems like things started going bad after the Bianchi incident and then Chilton was no longer holding his "safest driver" record.

That's really really sad.
Given the horrible performance from Sauber, we actually see improvement from Marussia comparatively.

re: Sauber and their Nasr and Ericsson confirmations.
There are 2 problems and they are called Sutil and Giedo van der Garde . Sutil's contract goes through to 2015. Apparently van der Garde had also inked a contract for 2015.

Check this out! Caterham has gone to crowdfunding as a last-ditch effort to not go the way of Marussia.

https://www.crowdcube.com/caterham/

They need to raise 2.35 million pounds in the next week to make fee deadline

They're already 12% of the way to goal.

********

Horner called this stupid, basically LOL

“The concept of that is wrong and shouldn’t be allowed," said Horner.
“I don’t agree with the fans having to fund a team,” he told Sky Sports News HQ. “The fans pay to be entertained by the teams, they shouldn’t be having to pay for a team."

"It is important that Formula 1 doesn’t do its dirty washing in public, it is important that the teams along with the commercial rights holder and the governing body sit down and go through what are the issues and what do we need to do to create a better environment going forward,” he added

I have to admit that I don't care if severly uncompetitive teams are there or not. Marussia and Caterham are pretty much just roadblocks for the other teams and will NEVER be competitive. F1 is for the big boys with deep pockets. I'd rather see space made fo V.A.G. , BMW , Toyota or another Red Bull type of company that can make the necessary investments to go for the WC.

Sounds like a surprisingly naive thing to say. He is also going to tell Ferrari to stop selling overpriced merchandise to it's fans? Fans pay to be entertained, directly or indirectly - or maybe he thinks it's still 1960 and wealthy owners will just write big checks for their own amusement?

This from The Buxton Blog "Nothing Lasts Forever":
"In the 64 year history of Formula 1, 164 teams have existed. Today, including Caterham and Marussia, 11 survive. 153 teams have thus failed within that time period. That’s an average of a little over two teams (2.390) failing each season. While unfortunate, the demise of the sport’s two slowest and most poorly funded teams is well within acceptable and statistical, if slightly Darwinian, limits."

I have to admit to feeling the same way.

And I consider myself an F1 die hard -- I haven't missed a qualifying or race since 1996(?) when Speedvision came on the scene in the US and F1 news is the first thing I read online every day (even during the off season).

Agree, and I also have been a fan for over 40 years, but I think that seven teams each running three cars and a more even dispersion of the proceeds would enhance the 'show' greatly. It would be much more competitive and excellent drivers who are currently forced into inferior cars getting a ride in the third car would really tighten up the racing.

Bernie Ecclestone: Caterham crowdfunding plan a disaster for F1

Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has labelled Caterham's plan to get back on the grid via crowdfunding as a "disaster" for the sport.

Caterham's administrators revealed a plan on Friday to try to raise £2.35 million from fans to ensure the Leafield-based outfit could race in Abu Dhabi.

But Ecclestone is not impressed with the idea, and says that if teams cannot afford to compete in F1 then they should not be there.

"It's up to the fans if that's what they want to do," he told media in the paddock at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

"Maybe people will put investment in the team.

"I think it's a disaster. We don't want begging bowls. If people can't afford to be in Formula 1, they have to find something else to do.

"If I sit in a poker game and I can't afford to be there with the other people, I get killed and have to leave."

Ecclestone added that he is slightly baffled as to how F1 teams have got into so much financial trouble, but says it is not his business to manage their affairs.

"I don't know what they do with their money," he said. "I don't spend their money. We just give it to them.

"We give the teams nearly $900 million a year. We don't spend it.

"The trouble is they haven't really understood. People want to win, all the teams here want to win. Some teams have got more money and they spend it.

"When I had a race team a few years ago, in fact a few hundred years ago, I used to run the team according to how much money we could spend and we won the world championship.

"That's what they don't do. They don't seem to understand that somebody is going to be last."

25% of the way there.

Like it or hate it, it's an interesting experiment.

Big things are said to be coming. Alonso might be taking Andrea Stella, Edoardo Brosco and Alberto Antonini from Ferrari (or some combo of those names).

Up to 15 people are leaving McLaren this week and next, allegedly to make room for Alonso's people.

The McLaren Honda car will most likely debut at the post-race testing after Abu Dhabi.

*******
11/12/14 update
Catheram is around 52% to goal but their driver, Marcus Ericsson, has cut all ties with the team. If Caterham does meet goal, they'll need to find a new driver

"Following recent events re Caterham Sports Limited and 1 MRT Sdn Bhd, my adviser Eje Elgh and I have decided to terminate, with immediate effect, all agreements connecting me to the Caterham F1 team," said Ericsson in the statement.

I hope McLaren take Alonso's advice and keep JB for another couple of years. He is still faster than Magnussen and is a likeable driver with a bit more character than the young Dane. F1 can't just be a lineup of whining super egos, rookies and sponsored crash machines.

I don't know if you've been following the WEC thread but it strongly looks like JB might join Mark Webber and the Porsche squad for the World Endurance Championship
