Could be fun, but I will add disclaimer that I am slow to learn new tracks. Its repetition that makes me fast. I wear a helmet every day.

Well, that's same for all of us (slow to learn new tracks). I've been there only once, mid-2012. And, since I at that time had just decided to turn off DSC for good, and being at a new track, I tip-toe'd around all day. The following is the video from that day:

.

And, in contrast, this is a recent video of Dan, who is an excellent driver, based up in NorCal, who knows this track well:

BTW, let me know when y'all might come down to Thunderhill. I've only been there once (it was the first track day going DSC off full-time, in June of 2012), so it might be a good friendly battle for us. I know USCTrojanMan29 likes that track, so perhaps he'll join me there.
Yeah, that was a fun track. We should go out there when PCA GGR is running out there...either in July or Sept. I know a guy who can trailer our cars out there from So Cal. Only bad thing is that they have a 103db limit which my car won't pass with my track pipes.

Sorry to bump this thread, but recently threw on a new set of square 275/35/18 NT01s (0314 code) and now have two track days (Thunderhill) on them.

After the first day, the drivers rear tire had noticeable splice, which I rotated to the right front for the second track day. That splice seems to be improving, but it's still noticeable. I plan to keep that tire in the same position.

After the second track day, the now drivers rear tire also has light splicing.

DAMMIT.

I e-mailed Nitto and they didn't have much to say other than suggesting taking it to a dealer for examination, or possibly rotating to the other side on the same axle.

Thought I'd add an additional data point here.

ive noticed it happen to me most times on drivers rear as well. wonder why as that is the least used tire for me in a CCW track orientation.

It's very peculiar that we're experiencing the exact same thing -- same tire position, also with CCW track orientation.

Haven't used nt01s in a while. Trying out various radial rcomps. New maxxis rc1 looks promising, has 100 tread wear like nt01 but no rain tread. Should last fairly long and be slightly faster. They will heat cycle though.

you should def try them out and report back to us, mr. guinea pig sir.

looks interesting. they are asymmetric, wonder if flipping them would be any problem.

Ironically there was 1 page writeup on the RC1 in the most recent issue of Grassroots Motorsports that I saw at Barnes & Noble this evening.
It was generally positive review, but it wasn't the next-best-thing, either.

Pros: cost, relatively predictable
Cons: a bit skittish; didn't handle heat too well but did come back after dialing things back on the track

Their conclusion was that it was a viable entry-level R-comp that's worth considering.

I've got a set of 18s and 2 had a splice after the first day at Road America. Looks like they are cleared up after 2 more days. Haven't looked to closely yet.

And just to make sure I'm doing the right thing to fix it, when you find a splice, if it isn't too bad, are you just rotating to the opposite corner in a "X" fashion? That is Tirerack's suggestion. Nitto's tech support suggested opposite side, same axle.

I had one nt01 that looked pretty bad and sent it back for replacement. All others I have moved to another position. Either across on same axle or across to opposite axle is what I do.

I don't think it really matters since the main point is to reverse the rotation direction in order to load the splice in the opposite direction. Note that only one direction will open up the splice (generally), so you'll now be pressuring the previously unopened splices to open up some...
