Jalopnik's F80 M3 review

I'd say it's worth the read...enjoy!

http://jalopnik.com/2015-bmw-m3-the-...iew-1635342844

Personally, I am obsessed with this car. If I was to buy either the M3 or M4, I'd absolutely go with the 4-door variant, knowing we're planning on starting a family in the next year or so.

Thoughts on either??

Can't wait to see the M2....

Best way I've heard it put.

I am biased, lets get that out of the way up front.

But the way the kids at Jalopnik are talking about these fender flares...I just don't get it. I went to the Detroit show last January to see the M twins in person. I didnt know at the time I would be buying one, just wanted to check out the worlds best show.

I remember every single angle of the M4 coupe, took multiple pictures, and did my best to sneak a peek at the interior. The M3 in YMB was literally 15 ft away. I couldn't tell you what color the wheels were on that car. I honestly regret not spending more time with it, just had blinders on.

I love the M3, its a fantastic car. But 50% of the comments on that post mentioned the flares. The M3 is a great car because you can drop the kids off at school, have a business lunch with a client, then track that baby on the way home.

Written like a high school tweet. This review did absolutely nothing for me except bemoan how low the bar has become for "journalism" today.

100% agree. I think the F82 M3 is miles ahead of the last M3 as far as looks go. But I was never a big fan of that car, the coupe on the other hand still cranks my neck when it drives by.

I need to take a better look at the new sedan, maybe it'll help me understand.

Jalopnik is a great site. I know the editor (Matt Hardigree - Woodlands high grad), but its gotten to be a bit sophomoric lately.

The turning point for me was last spring when that Raphael guy had a post detailing how easy it would be to give (not get) blowjobs in the new S class. He actually posed in various positions to see what part of the car would be the easiest. It was classless.

I just turned 38, not 78 but even I want something a little more adult.

Edit: I dont "know" Matt. We've traded emails and Ive been to a couple local meet-ups in Austin and Houston. He's a nice guy and a proud Highlander.

I always prefer coupes but there is something nasty about the M3 4 door that the more sporty looking coupe couldn't produce. In my head I saw naturally aggressive and wide. Plus I have kids haha!

I think you hit it on the head here. The M3 is the more aggressive car.

Coupe looks a bit more refined...or maybe adult? Not sure what the word is, but the M4 is surely not as aggressive as the M3. Well done.

i hate every journalists that "reviews" the ceramic brakes. stopping distance is not shorter with them. they don't improve brake fade resistance. the steels are just as capable all god damn day long on a heavy braking track directly from the factory floor. if anything the ceramics are better for the street than steels. less squeel less dust. last longer. on the track the rotors will wear a much faster rate. they will outlast a set of steel rotors but likely not by much. also the pad compound matched to the ceramics is likely too soft for heavy track use. it will likely wear out the pads very quickly.

i did the stopping exercise at pdc in a ceramic m4 and i must say i believe they aren't as grabby as my experience with the stock steel units. certainly the steels feel more easy to modulate. i thought they would be similar previously.

One thing I definitely agree with in the article. M4 is a really dumb name change. Both coupe and sedan should still be M3. Sorry to any M4 owners.

Agreed. What worse is they probably did it because of Audi. Once you start following what other manufacturers are doing, it's a slippery slope.

Journalism? What's journalism? I seem to have a faint memory of what that was but no longer since most journalists are either rigid ideologists, narcissists or both and neither is capable of objective thought.

This Audi point is interesting. When they did the daytime LED's on the R8, everyone copied...except BMW. The guys in Munich just expanded on the angel eyes and incorporated LED there without a hint of copying Audi.

Mercedes on the other hand did a direct copy, and sloppy one at that. The E-Class daytime LED's look like a pep boys discount special.

My only real gripe is the value ranking. 7/10? Really? Sure, if you load it up it is expensive, but with a base compared to what else you can buy....really? German engineering and this much power for so little? ummmm....ok.

(also, I think the sound is higher, but whatevs, that is personal.)

I kind of agree. My car was 75k MSRP and I got a couple grand off. Really I think my car should have been 65k MSRP. But that's just me.

And I would quibble with handling at 8/10. Definitely a 9/10 for me. Brakes also 9/10. And gearbox -- at least a 8/10 (although I have a manual; at a minimum having the choice of two outstanding trannies should warrant a plus). OTOH, exterior could be a 8/10.

While I'm bitching, I would also change the point system. Sound should be five points, and a new category "function" (how well does car accomplish the goals for its niche) five points.

I would award 3/5 for sound, 5/5 for function. My total would be 83, which seems harsh for such a fantastic car, but way more reasonable than 79/100. So sayeth Dumbledore.
