Squealing M Sport brakes

Out of those of you that have the Brembo Blue M Sport brakes, how many of you have brake squeal at low speed braking? And have any you cured it? If so how??

My front brakes squeal only when they’ve warmed up, for the first 4-6 miles of town driving they make no noise. Once warmed up they squeal when braking to a stop for the last few feet & when slowing down to below 15-10mph.

It’s on new discs (less than 5,000 miles) I’ve swapped out the almost new pads that had been fitted by the supplying dealers for a new set of Brembos & liberally applied brake grease to the backs of pads & shims but nothing I’ve tried has worked.
I’ve spoken to a couple of MD BMW techs & they both said that it’s a common issue & nothing can be done to stop it, which if so is a bit annoying

Have a '22 540i with the m-sport brakes, even same color as yours. At around 2k miles the squealing began. Left it at the dealership for a few days, and they said there is nothing they can do. Happened a little more after that. Then the car sat for most of the winter, and I have heard nothing since. Now have about 6500 miles on it and the brakes are quiet. Nothing else has changed. Basically got the same story from the dealer - nothing you can do about squealing brakes with the m-sport brake option.

When I had my old Chevy SS with Brembos, they did the same shims and grease to address squealing. It helps for a bit then comes back. I did read about a copper paste that they apply now that's supposed to actually help a lot but have not personally tried it (different cars but maybe this could be helpful). I think most people "fix" this problem by giving up and switching to different pads.

I have not had the squeal on my M340i yet luckily.

I have the M Sport Pro with the black calipers. I have had the low speed brake squealing since new. Sounds like it's mostly from the rear. My dealerships mechanic said the only way he knows to fix it is to replace the pads with aftermarket.

Yeah mine had, had aftermarket pads already fitted when I bought it & I was hoping that’s what the issue might have been, hence fitting the Brembo pads.

I guess all pad manufacturers must have to make their pads to a certain spec & probably use similar materials.

Seems as though I’m just gonna have to live with it…just wish it wasn’t so loud. I say brake squeal, it’s more like brake screech!

Don't understand how BMW technicians don't know how to solve the issue.

What's happened to the bonded pads? BMW replacement instructions carry the same bonding detail as the 'snipped' Technical Training document.

The best solution for brake squeal is a louder exhaust. Lol

I don't think you can get away from the low speed squeal- think outside temperature plays a role in it as well. Mine do it maybe 1 out of every 10 times on first braking right out of the parking spot when temps are over 90F or so. After that they are completely silent.

I never get squeal like you describe though. I have grease on all the pin contact points between the pad ears and the spring clip. Use bonded Brembo NAO pads, cleaned the pistons and held the brake 3 minutes to get the tape to set. Standard BMW blank rotors, permatex red grease.

The non Brembo pads that I changed out weren’t bonded. The replacement Brembos were & I followed the instructions as posted by Highland Pete the first time I fitted them, but after a few miles they made as much noise as the pads I’d replaced.
So when I stripped the brakes down this last time, which was the third time I’d had the pads out the adhesive had worn away where the pistons make contact & some of it had turned into little ‘balls’ of stickyness so I cleaned of the remaining adhesive.
Brakes are now a little quieter but still squeal.

I suppose I could try a set of ceramic pads

I get the same sounds almost all of the time when I pull out of my outdoor parking spot. Where I live in South Florida we have had a “real feel” temperature of over 100 degrees almost every morning for the last few weeks. In addition, I park right next to the intercoastal and very close to the Atlantic Ocean and I think that there is a little salt buildup on the brakes from the ocean air that might be contributing to the issue.

Am pleased to report that after having driven around sixty miles yesterday, when I took the G31 out today the brakes only squeal occasionally now & when they do it’s not as loud as it was, so am pretty happy & hopeful that they may improve further with a few more miles.

Mine do this if I haven't driven the car in a few days. Same thing on my last car. I don't think it's the ocean.

My SA suggested that hard braking while driving at high speeds might lessen or resolve the noise issue.

Since stripping down the front brakes, cleaning everything up again, liberally applying Brembo B-quite brake grease, fitting new brake pad adhesive sheets to the pads & holding the brake pedal down for 3 minutes to make sure the pads fully adhere I’m pleased to say that around 95% of brake squeal has now gone & on the odd occasion they start again I have found applying a little light left footed braking quickly cleans up the pads & the brake squeal goes away

Zero brake squeal under heavy or light braking. I definitely keep the brakes bedded well at all times and it certainly helps that I’m a heavy/late on the brakes. Switched to the Essex/AP CP9668/9449 brake kit and still silent braking with Ferodo DS2500 street pads. Also have a set of Carbotech 1521 street pads with no braking issues.

I’d strongly recommend rebedding the brakes if the start to squeal and that should minimize or eliminate the squealing.

I have been using Hawk HPS 50 pads now for about 20 years on a variety of Mini's and BMWs. I am meticulous about the install and then bedding them in.

They STOP and that is what you want. <G> And no noise and very low dust.

I have the M Performance brakes with orange calipers and have never heard a sound in ~5 months

Was test driving an M850i yesterday and it had the most severe case of this brake squealing I have ever heard. It was ridiculous. I didn't know it could get that bad- don't know how those who have it that bad deal with it. Rode the brakes a little and even did a near ABS stop from 45mph and it was still just as bad.

Perhaps the pads weren't fully mated to the rotors and now they've worn together.

I wouldn't bother w/ceramic pads. Tried a set of Brembo ceramics on my E70 and they were scary. Wouldn't stop the car when cold. Never again.

The solution is for you to lower your window and squeal at the exact frequency but opposite phase of the brake noise.
