Misfire issues on BMW 2015 328i n20 HELP
So i have been having a misfire issue on my car. Started with cylinder 1 so change coil, issue seemed to have been solved. Few days later cylinder 4 misfire so i change all the coils. Car drives fine for two days under heavy throttle misfire issue comes up on cylinder 2. So i change all the plugs and injectors. After doing this again car drives fine for a few days and then misfire issue comes up on cylinder 3. Things to note if idling no issue at all, the misfire issue only comes up under load. Do you really need to recode injectors after they are installed? If it is not the coils, plugs or injectors then what? I have a tune @20lbs, downpipe, atm intercooler. The issue started to happen after a long out of town drive and i filled up with gas. Note I had the tune and modifications on the car for about a month without issue so I kinda doubt it is the tune.

Strange, indeed.
Do you have a Flash tune or Piggyback? I would try unplugging tune / flashing back to stock at this point... Interested to hear other opinions on what could be causing this N20 to misfire under load (assuming its not the tune). |

@2000Z3M filled up twice from half tank since then. Just added a fuel treatment will see how this goes. I am thinking about changing the HPFP but not sure?

It sounds exactly like a faulty ignition coil issue, which is very strange considering you've changed the coils as well. try swapping the coil on the misfiring cylinder and see if the misfire code changes to a different cylinder.
it could also be an issue with your plugs, such as incorrect part number, improper gapping, etc. |

Hey Mex so i changed the coil from cylinder 3 (no misfire code) to cylinder 1 (had misfire code) and put in another new coil I purchased and started to get a misfire code in cylinder 3 consistently under load. No misfire on cylinder 1. Coil part number is 8616153, just changed that coil again to an older one I had. Will test and see.

change the sparkplugs yet? i was having a similar issue. Also maybe its a bad PCV valve. I would recommend go to the dealer and let them do the check thats what i had to do when mine was misfiring.

I feel like you've covered most things it could be. Your best bet maybe at this point is to see a mechanic or dealership.

I had a similar issue, turned out there was a crack in the turbo on my n20. The cost was like $500 parts and labor. I thought it was the MAF sensor but that was good. Spark plugs and ignition coils were fine. Find a local Indy to get a second opinion.

YES YES YES you need to code the new injectors. They all have different flow rates. You probably shouldn't even be driving it without coding first.

Well seemed to solve the problem. Firstly on the f30 n20 if you using the same part number for the injectors it does not need to be coded. The issue seemed to have been related to the fuel not sure if it was water or the additive (boostane) i added. I used a can of red line s1 and add fuel from a different gas station brought it to the dealer and they indicated all was well. No more misfires for the past two weeks now.

Interesting. So if I use non-OEM injectors I have to code it? How does the coding work exactly, and I'm assuming they have to all be the same brand and model?

Another issue to be aware of is using the wrong injectors.
eg. Fitting Euro 6 injectors to an engine/DME/car that requires Euro 5 injectors. ISTA has a service function that will determine what type to fit. |

I'm going to do mine at some point to get a baseline of how the engine is. I thought 10% differences was ok between cylinders |
