Decoding BMW Service records on used cars- Who has the ring?

Hey forum peeps.

I recently purchased a creampuff, 2009 e92 M3 w/ 44k miles on it. Luckily, all major services performed on the car were by the same two BMW dealerships which happened to be extremely diligent and detailed about updating whatever database that carfax pulls from.

That being said, attempting to get specifics about my cars history *outside* of basic maintenance for dates while the car was not owned by myself, immediately invokes a cold war era NASA level clearance protocol... Maybe I just don't know the secrete handshake. I had the exact same experience at a previous BMW dealership when I owned an 05 BMW M3 ZCP, but thought it was a one off occurrence.

The way I look at it is that the car is mine now... I don't need to know the details of who previously brought the car in... But I deserve to know the details of what was done to the car during these few unexplained visits.

Is my only option to befriend a BMW tech and hope he can slip me the records on the low-low?

Has anyone else ran into a similar issue?

TIA

It should not be that hard, tell them the last 7 of the VIN and they print out everything the car has ever been through. I was even given every detailed line item that the car was built with.

It is like pulling teeth for some dealerships it seems. Maybe try another dealership.

I agree, it shouldn't be that hard. But so far two dealerships I've tried have cited privacy concerns and said they cannot print the records.

I'll call another dealership.

Try going through the parts dept. They can also pull it for you
