And here is why an M car is not a real 'car'

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...M/default.aspx

Isn't the M235i faster yet more fuel efficient and comfortable than the 1-series M coupe?

And why this obsession about what is real M or not? There are always trade-offs, and one cant say that because a car is more M, it is more desirable. Direct/heavy/communicative steering = uncomfortable steering. Suspension tuned for the track = uncomfortable suspension. Super responsive engine = jerky ride when high heels are doing the driving. Higher power = less economy and higher service cost. Wider and more grippy tires = drifting and having "fun" becomes much harder etc etc etc

If only being more M meant being more V10 or being more 1-series M coupe, then it would be desirable haha. But being real "M" does not mean so much today.

Everyone already knows it's not a "real" M car; BMW itself also makes that statement. It's an "M Performance Car".

This has already been discussed, but in the usual nature of forums, it will be beat to death here again and then forgotten in 24 hours. Tiresome, some of these threads.

The forums convinced me that even wearing a t-shirt or hat with the M logo is posing unless you are truly a member of BMW's Motorsport division.

If I slap an M badge behind my model indicator badge, will my car finally become an M car? Nope, even if I shove in M3 suspension bits and everything M that's reasonable. That's how I see the M235i right from the very beginning. It's no M car.

This is why it's called M235i and not 2M.

I think it's an embarrassment that the car doesn't come with an oil temperature gauge.

There is so much about the car that I really appreciate but no oil temperature gauge on a turbocharged car?

Seriously?

Nope. Not that I'm aware of. A glaring omission on a car of that caliber.

I don't think there is a coolant temperature gauge either.

I saw someone mention some kind of "secret" menu that you can access via coding but I am confident that there aren't any "standard" temperature gauges whatsoever (neither analog nor digital).

Baffling. My F30 M Sport 335i had an oil temperature gauge. My C63 has a dedicated screen where I can view all of the pertinent fluid temperature information. The oil temperature readout/font remains blue (warm-up mode) until the oil reaches operating temperature (176 degrees Fahrenheit). Once it hits 176 degrees, the font turns from blue to white (hammer down mode).

If you're going to track the M235i, you will need to know the fluid temperatures out there. Hell, even on the street you need the gauges to know that the engine and fluids have reached operating temperature.

Of all the PREEMINENT determining points of what makes a "TRUE M CAR", the defacto one most people use "a cars own special engine" is utter bullshit. And I will explain as the data is readily available...

The orriginal M car: M535i ENGINE CODE: M30B34

"The BMW M30 (early models are sometimes referred to as "M06") is a straight-6 SOHC piston engine which was used over a 28 year lifespan over many BMW models. Ward's have rated the M30 as one of the "Top Engines of the 20th Century".[1]

It has been given the nicknames of 'Big Six' and 'Senior Six', following the introduction of the smaller BMW M20 straight-6 in the late 1970s."

All of this can re related to just about EVERY great M cars engine, a redesigned and speced version of the stock powerplant.

Do yourself a favor, let BMW tell YOU what is a "real M car", becasue the consumer "YOU" doesnt know what the fuck they are talking about.
