F30 335i Extended Maintenance suggestion

I currently have a 2013 335i M-Sport RWD, and need to get the extended warranty. I'm at ~49000 miles and plan to keep the car a bit longer; not necessarily til 100k miles. Its modded with DP, Intake, JB4 and Exhaust. I don't want to take no chances of eating a repair cost.

Does any one have the plug to buying the extended maintenance? or does anyone have experience with third party warranty? if so, please give details. I've got quotes ranging from $2,800 to $3,700.

You don't want to take chances but you have all the done to your car? If you get the extended warranty it'll be voided once they find out you have all the done to it.

That seems to be the average for warranty pricing though.

Be careful with third party warranties. When I was looking for my car I stopped by an independent dealer that offered one of these products. When I looked it up the reviews were shockingly bad with both consumers and repair people complaining that they denied about 95 percent of the time and horrible customer service. Just be sure to do some homework before investing in any 3rd party.

My mods have never been an issue. My warranty never got voided.

I am assuming you don't mean extended maintenance as that only covers things like oil changes, etc. I have the extended gold warranty and at $2,930 for 5/year 100,000 miles it seems kinda lame for the price.. Seems like a reputable 3rd party warranty is the better value. I hear good things about Route66

I don't think you can purchase the ext warranty through other dealers, BMW requires the local dealer to do the key readers first then issue the policy. You can try other dealers and see if anyone can offer the ext warranty.

Actually, not true. I purchased my vehicle in Atlanta and purchased my BMW platinum extended warranty in South Carolina.

I got a quote from a BMW Dealer 1,000 miles away today. They simply looked up my VIN.

I knew about extending the maintenance for one or two years, but did not know there was an actual extended warranty available from BMW USA. I didn't see anything about that on bmwusa.com

It can actually go an additional 3 years 84 months total).

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/conte...contracts.aspx

Pay particular interest to the PDF on that page as well.

Also note there is a deductible per item as well on ESC.

Reading the California law, it appears the Dealer that sells it from out of state might be liable for a Felony. That does not mean BMW will not honor it.

I recently renewed an E90 328i and my dealer told me that they need to do a key reader on the vehicle before they even wrote up the policy, I contacted Pacific BMW and same story.

There has been a recent BMWNA policy change(maybe in 2014-2015?) that ESC purchases require physical presence of the car at selling dealer.

OP: I think you need to carefully the value in extended warranties; may not be worth it.

1) You seem to be driving a fair number of miles. It (essentially) costs more for miles than for years, so you may run into a situation where you run out of coverage before the 2-3 year period.
2) You're in CT. Don't know if you bought the car there (one of the requirements of CA Warranty), but many pieces of CA cars are covered until 7/70K anyway. So buying an extended warranty may really only give you 1 year/15K, which is kind of pricey for $3,000.
3) I'd be really careful of 3rd party warranties, running as you are with mods. BMW might be "nice", but warranty companies are always looking for ways to not cover something.
4) Electronics are often covered separately (the BMW extended warranties are written so that you only get them covered with the maximum plan.)

Bought mine last month......warranty; not the service contract.

Interesting that none have asked me for that over the last week when comparing prices out if state.

Have you tried Route 66 Warranty. I have used them on my old BMW and they were great. I got my money back within 3 years.
You can only buy their warranty through credit unions.

That's good news, although many west coast dealers do not play ball and require physical presence.

Read about Route 66 on another thread. Googled them. Went to site.

There is a "Qualify fast" box and link heavily displayed on the front page.

Filled that out...and all the subsequent screens.

Next day I get an email " we don't sell direct. You have to do through a bank or credit union"

WTF

Why waste my time, have a "Qualify Fast" on the front page of your site, make me fill out all kinds of info only to tell me "we don't sell direct".

No reason for me to go out and find a bank or credit union to give money for nothing and run up my costs.

And if they have that BS run around in the beginning, I'll pass overpaying to fund a bank/credit union cut and get that kind of BS on service.
