Service Bulletin for Peeling Steering Wheel Cover?

I have a 2006 330i and the dealer is giving me a hard time about replacing the peeling steering wheel cover, saying it's normal wear and tear. It sounds like a fairly common problem according to this board....anyone know if there is a service bulletin for the problem?

i got mine replaced under warranty, no questions asked. also got the interior door pull replace as it was peeling too.

have you tried talking to a different SA or manager?

if those options have failed, i'd find another dealer to go to and/or call up bmwna.

good luck!

I'm taking my wife's '06 325i in on Monday morning for the same issues. Peeling on the steering wheel and on the drivers door pull. I'll let you know how it goes. I'm expecting a fight to get it covered under warranty, but it's definitely not normal wear and tear on a 2 year old car!

my steering wheel is starting to peel too...and yes only just slightly too.

the black material at 9 o'clock and above the volume controls on the wheel, near where the wheel connects to the horn/airbag/etc.

is that similar to what others are experiencing?

ditto on the handle pull too...its looks like finger nail marks. very small but irritating nonetheless...

hopefully they swap it out for ya!

Had this on our LR3 and dealer replaced under warrantee without question. This is premature wear. There was some speculation in other threads that it is brought on by certain hand creams interacting with the leather. Makes sense, as my wife drove the LR3 and uses those products.

That was my first thought... she loves the Armorall, thought that may have something to do with it... seems to be pretty common with the '06's though. I told her to lay off all the product and just give it a nice dry buff if it gets dirty though, just in case.
