Thanks Toyota...

... I needed a good laugh today, and reading the pricing of the Gen2 GR Yaris certainly has provided that...

Bonus chuckles for the sales process and, well, that interior "design"...

https://media.toyota.co.uk/toyota-an...-new-gr-yaris/

"In demand" it might well be, but, jeez...

WTF! Wasn't the original one about £32-33K

The thing is, you make a good car that is special and comes top in reviews - and this allows the manufacturers to milk it. People will still buy them because of the reputation.

Same thing happened with the new Civic Type R. Put 12K on top of it.

My MK2 GTE Astra had a better dash with a digital display too and that was 1987

Dash really looks like we have stepped back in time to where they would try to make something fit and didn't quite get it right.

Can't tell me that a glorified shopping trolly no matter how quick it is can be worth that RRP!

Really helped resale values of used FK8s, though. A good 2019/20 low miler is still fetching almost RRP when new.

Original starter at about £32k but in reality the Circuir Pack car was £36/37 iirc?

Interiro and changes I quite like, better driving position, mirror snd screen position errors removed.

It was always going to be a £40k+ car and it’s not really a DD type. It’s up against the HC Type R and that’s £49k I guess.

May time will be when actual allocations are taken up.

Wiping tea off my monitor after looking at that.... thanks...

£60K. Really? Anyone who pays that clearly has more money than sense. And that dash... looks like a cheap plastic remake of a 1980's arcade sim.

I can only assume that the hefty price tag 'might' be attractive to someone who wants a rare & possibly appreciating limited edition to keep in a garage, in the hope it'll be worth more than that in 40 years time.

Aye, right..

And WTAF is an "intelligent manual" gearbox?

It's not even that quick - over 5s to 60, my two tonne SUV is quicker off the line.

I get it's not about acceleration, and all about handling, but let's face it, where are you going to ever use anywhere near the capability of the Yaris unless you live in North Wales or somewhere rural with quiet roads? That said, its rally credentials are handy given the stat of most of the roads in the UK....

Yes it was. I had my name on Toyota's list to get a place on the waiting list....

Lost interest and bought more motorcycles.

I don't know what it is with these for me. Yes its a great little drive, and its a very competent car, but its the looks of the thing, and how they look on the road. They make me chuckle when I see one. For some reason, they Make me think of the many short people I know who have to go to the gym so they are wider than they are tall.

Prices rises seem consistent with all the others to me, the two £60k jobbies will sell, because its the Hero model!

I have never wanted one and I don't think I ever will, I'd take a JCW over one of these all day everyday!

I reckon if I had a ton of cash and looking for a little fun car then I would just be buying a used rally car (and fitting a comfy chair driver's seat) rather than this road going "tribute"... and if my budget for a car was the £45/60k that this car costs then I'm not looking at this car...

I think the way the EU is looking at things is that it is trying to cover off the "small specialist manufacturer" kind of solution to producing and selling vehicles that are broadly outwith their intentions when it comes to how hey want the cars to be... and, as with any regulations, it leads to some situations like this...

As for the UK, and our application (or otherwise) then we are not going to adopt anything different because nobody will be making different vehicles just for our market (albeit I accept the RHD thing is already doing that, but in terms of safety and emissions the cars broadly align regardless of side of road driven on) and the thinking is other markets worldwide will start to come together on things like safety and emissions... and we would simply look daft reversing away from these things...

After all it would surely do to ride oneself over while awaiting the 911GTSRSSRi Special?

Yeah no one is getting the £60k version Dave. It’s just a fanboy special and about 30 U.K. max I’d say.
What else would you get new for £45k or used for £45k?

I’ve seen a Supra Manual locally (dealer) that was listed for £42 and still had 2 yr warranty. Ideally I’d like a 718 GTS 4.0 for that money but that’s another budget level.

I've never driven the Yaris GR, Chris, but it looks like an absolute hoot, judging by YT coverage.

Not sure whether the M135i, MB A35 or the Mini JCW qualify as AWD 'pocket rockets' with plenty of poke like the Yaris, but for £45k, you could buy lightly used and get a whole lot of ££ change 😊

Hmm, I’ve owned the JCW (manual) and the M135i and test driven the GRY for an afternoon. It is a different calibre of car and the gearchange is vastly superior to the mini. ETTO of course and the pricing might have put many off already before the May ballot.

On that I do find it a both a good and bad idea. As I understand T will contact current ‘owners’ first. I’m pretty certain that from their records that might just be a purchaser? ie all the people who bought and flipped in 3 months 😂😂

Perhaps they’ll go off servicing records for a ‘real owners’ database.

One thing for sure, not really a lot of these sort of cars coming around any time soon

The M135i is that (without discount) with a spec... A slightly different proposition, yes, but, for 99.9% of what we normally do in the cars, will be a better buy than a GR Yaris...

Must admit I have completely disengaged from the reality of this sort of market these days... Could not tell you how much the list prices are of most things these days... I don't imagine my 1-er will be going at the end of 4 years... I'll look to re-fi... at least I know its history and it has a genuine low milage (5/6k per year)... so it is pretty much in new-sh condition as regards wear and tear... and probably worth £25/6 in trade in right now... so will likely have a +ve equity from here on in...
