Nice! Haha, I just heard that some cars had a good .5 sec lag between when you pulled the paddle to when the shift started, check this video out:

Get the E92 M3. When I drove the 2014 991S I felt underwhelmed so I can't even imagine the 997. I mean it's an awesome car cut the M3 is better and cheaper.

the shifting seems a little slow in the at first but when he gets going and not slipping it shifts quickly. I'm wondering if the "slower" shift isn't actually the clutches absorbing some of the slip on the tires...(more like an manual transmission) i hope i said that correctly if that makes since? But when i did the launch mode, i did not notice any kind of slow shift like this video shows. i definitely see what you are referring to though.

The M3 is a very nice car, but sorta just an enhanced 3 series at the end of the day... the 911 is in a class of its own, and will undoubtedly be the highlight of your weekend mornings. Also, the stereo is awful in the 911; just the excuse you need to turn it off and rev it up for your drives!
"sorta enhanced 3 series"? It's pretty much a completely different car.

OP, Figure out wants/needs. Both are great cars and you'll be happy either way.

Completely different? I wouldn't go as far to say that, although I did set myself up poorly with my opinion since this is the M3 forum. I think we can agree the 911 is more unique than the M3 though, considering it has no basis model where as the E9x M3 is still an E9x at the end of the day (With flair, suspension, DCT, and a V8 of course).

Well right now I've pretty much gone insane and am considering a 2012 Carrera GTS that for sale in the city over...$79k sticker but I want to get it for $75k out the door. If we can't come to a deal, I'll look around for a C2S. I'll also try to get in a test drive of an m3 in the next week or so.

decisions decisions...

If you're talking GTS then go for it 100% over the M3. It's a completely different animal and I love it so much more than the standard C2S.

That's not completely different? I guess interior is just about the same.

+1, the DCT is one of the best features of this car IMHO. I've ALWAYS had a clutch pedal in my "fun car". I drove a DCT car and had to have it. There are 5 settings for the DCT. At 4-5 it is damn near instantaneous. The throttle match on down shifts makes me smile every time...

The 911 IS the better car. Better feel, faster, handling the M3 wont touch and track performance the m3 cant touch either. It is also built better with more quality materials/F&F. As a daily driver its overall just better. More fun to drive at any speed whereas the M cars are truly only fun when you drive them very aggressively and and are thrashing them about.

The M3 is more practical with a bigger trunk...those are the only reasons to get it over a 911.

In final thing, PDK is the best dual clutch on the market. It's a step or two above DCT in my experiences.

You're correct, still an E9x at the end of the day BUT it only shares 20% of parts with a regular 3-series. 80% are unique to the M3.

Classy problem to have.

If you go 911 get the S with the more powerful motor.

Talked to a guy who owned an m3 and a 2010 gt3 today, he said go for the 911 no question. His M3 was pretty sweet though....

Does anyone know if putting an exhaust on the M3 voids the warranty?

Thanks!

Since you're all over the place, here's my $.02. I have either owned, currently own or had significant seat time in all of the vehicles you're entertaining.

If you want to save yourself two steps in the descent to madness, go out right now and test a 997 GT3 (preferably a .2). If you don't drive it and shortly thereafter find yourself obsessed with buying one, you're not human.

If you can't spring for the GT3, next best would be a 997.2 GTS. Great car with 85% of the performance and feel of the GT3.

If you don't want to spend that much a 997.2 C2S is still a fantastic car. Super reliable and faster than most people could ever exploit.

Lastly, let me say I LOVE my e92 M3. It's my DD. But when I open my garage door to go for a fun drive, it is ALWAYS second choice and would always be to any 997.2 based 911 GT3, GTS or C2S.

Now this was what I was looking for...thanks man I appreciate it. The GTS I'm looking at is a beautiful car...cant believe I found the exact one I wanted so close to home.

All about getting the right price though, if I can't get a good deal on this one, I really don't want a base Carrera S, unless it has the exact colors and interior I'm looking for.

The only things attracting me to the M3 are the price and the fact that for under $3k-$4k I can get it to sound exactly the way I wanted. This would mean sacrificing the warranty too.

The Porsche would definitely have to be left stock, which would probably be best in the long haul.

Thanks again!

I went from this:

To this:

...and I couldn't be happier. I loved my E92 M3 (in fact, I had an E93 M3 before my E92), but I felt it was time for a car that leaned more to the sports car side of the equation. To me, if fun is your main priority (and you can afford it), a P-car is the clear winner.

That's one hell of a move. Congrats. If I had half a brain and some impulse control, I'd own a GTS and sell the GT3 and M3.

Sell the GT3?! You must be crazy .

What does the GTS do better than the GT3 other than maybe ride comfort?
