Looks like they borrowed the headlamp design from the redesigned Camaro. Good idea for the car in general but not 100% feeling it. It's just the nose that I'm iffy on.

This is just an hommage concept - to celebrate M1's birthday.

The concept has no agenda. It's just a homage project like BMW Concept Coupe Mille Miglia 2006 was two years ago - conceived to celebrate BMW 328 Mille Miglia birthday, and to be shown at Concorso d'Eleganza at Villa d'Este exibition (sponsored by BMW Group).

Again: just an hommage without any future agenda!

It's not for sale, and will never be.

IT'S JUST A HOMMAGE /TRIBUTE CONCEPT TO CELEBRATE M1's 30TH ANNIVERSARY!!!

Is it so hard to understand that?

Please.

But before you do I just want to explain something.

BMW Concept policy.

There are several different Concept types BMW are presenting - it depends which department runs the project:

- by Mobile Tradition (hommage concepts like M1 Hommage or Concept Mille Miglia 2006 - mix of retro + futurism done just for fun)
- by Technik (weird future tech concepts like Z22, Z29 etc - tech is important, design is not)
- by Development department (all CleanEnergy, EfficientDynamics, ConnectedDrive concepts - upcoming tech usually implemented in current or upcoming cars)
- by Design department (design studies showcasing upcoming BMW models & design language - eg. Z07, Z9, CS1, xCoupe, xActivity, CS etc)
- by Marketing department (concepts previewing production version of upcoming cars - eg. M3 Concept, M5 Concept, Z4 Coupe Concept, X6 Concept etc).

All the Concepts EXCEPT THE ONES BY MOBILE TRADITION have a future agenda. While the Concepts done by Mobile Tradition are only a hommage / tribute to the past models, and have absolutely no future agenda. They are done just for fun. To celebrate an old model, and to give the designers an opportunity to unleash their retro fantasy.

Don't know if you like this answer, but according to the official press release the BMW design department ran this concept. So you're kinda confirming a future agenda.

Best regards, south

Best regards, south

Nope.

Design department executed the project - and it was the only "active" department involved in the development. Since this concept is all about hommage to design.

But the idea for a hommage Concept, the budget & all the organization (incl the presentation at Ville d'Este exhibition) is run by Mobile Tradition. Just like the Mille Miglia 2006 Concept was. But in the MM 2006 case also the development (engineering) department was involved in the car development (design was a secondary matter). While M1 Hommage is a pure form.

Think MM 2006 as a "joint-venture" project of Mobile Tradition & Technik, while M1 Hommage is a joint-venture of Mobile Tradition & Design department.

MM 2006 was a hommage to the BMW (street) racing engineering, M1 Hommage is a tribute to the BMW supercar design. In the first case Mobile Tradition wan't the engineers to pay tribute to the tradition, in the second case the designers get the same chance.

Yet both Concepts are just tributes, and nothing more.

i'd really like to see bmw bring back the m1, especially to go against the audi r8, but i'm not really feeling that concept.

that said, some of the pics looked very photoshopped/rendered imho.

It's good, but it's severely flawed in terms of aesthetics, in my opinion.

I agree with everything you just said there. I'd add more:

- Design seems like mix of the original M1 and the CS Concept. It's problem is that it has features from the M1 that should remain in the past. Wheels, hood etc. I like the hood's raised part, just not the slats. Wheels are terrible.

- Headlights need to be more significant. I like the idea of low slung headlights that are positioned under the hood line, but they need to be bigger.

- I agree that the corners of the car let it down a lot. The front corners are far too sharp and some angle of other lines are a little off.

- I will credit the side profile though. The middle section of the car is absolutely perfect! I love the character lines and the side skirt/side intake setup. Look mean/stylish. BMW have a way with lines that you know is "BMW" even if it's in a wacky concept form.

Overall, not perfect, but GREAT potential. I seen it yesterday but I seem to like it more today than I did yesterday!

It's a beauty!
Stunning concept, that would of course be modified if it ever should make it to market...
