Why are there so many dumb threads lately?

I used to come on here so many times during my day that at times it felt that I didn't do an honest days work because I spent the majority of the time on this site. But lately it seems that the threads are so dumb and non M related that I'm starting to wonder what's going on here.

Don't get me wrong, I've posted non M related threads before but at least mine, IMO, had some type of substance. The threads of late have been so dull they remind me of straight to video movies. No one cares to watch them in theaters but they release them for the heck of it and hope that someone will care enough to buy the DVD.

What has happened to the members who actually knew their stuff and chimed in on a regular basis? What forum are they on now? I want to talk about car stuff that's relevant to the M brand, not that 335xi's are better than M3's and not what luxury jewellery M guys wear! Who cares if an M driver is bald anyways?!?! I still can't believe that one was posted!

Ok I'm done!

Thank you and have a nice day

IMO, the mods are not very active on this forum. The dumb threads should not be permitted in the first place.

A lot of the dumb threads are a reaction to all of the assinine responses to real threads. There are a large number of trolls on this forum since the car is still kind of the flavor of the day. Roadfly was the premier technical forum for the e46, but it started off with a lot of trolls and weirdos. I suspect M3Post will eventually grow out of the fanboy, troll, stage and mature into a more pleasant, useful forum.

Just be patient. I don't think mods are the answer. The trolls can eventually be pushed away with proper rebukes from regular members.

I agree, I am an "older" owner and I find many of the threads incredibly childish. Some of these posters must be about 17.

OTOH, there are some very knowledgible and helpful posters on here who contribute a lot of good info (when they actually do post).

I try and just skip threads that are obvously "bling" in content.

It is an M3 only forum, so the threads should be based around this specific car. For the best interest of most members, topics such as watches should be reserves for other lifestyle forums.

Though discussion of motorsport should definitely be permitted.

I wouldn't say that the mods are not very active on the forum (remember that all three of them have full time jobs, aside from being mods). I just think that some of the dumber threads could be deleted. There should be some type of forum rule, maybe there is and I haven't taken the time to read the rules, that dumb threads not pertaining to M's in any way will be deleted. Forget moving them, delete them!

Lol! You're right, watches should be reserved for lifestyle forums, though my particular watch thread that you may or may not be refering to was based on a poll on if I should buy the watch or use the same money to mod my M. I guess that one just made it by a thread.

Forums should be open to any type discussion, even though some people will find it lame. I agree that the "what kind of watch do M owners wear" makes it sound like were a bunch of cocks, but to each their own I suppose. I think we should start more inane forums like "What kind of Italian loafers do M owners wear?" or "how many pounds of gel do M owners use to slick their hair back?" I use 3lbs myself. Starting to sound like the Audi TT forum.

Maybe it's time for some full-time mods then, if the economics of the site permit. This should increase the quality of the forum which in turn would increase the traffic and consequently some new revenue streams...

I think it's an age thing at the moment, the forum is full of too many kids who think it's fun to disrupt intelligent discussion for their own amusement. But as RadiationJoe said it will eventually die away as they get bored and move on.

I don't notice a single change actually. There were always trolls here and there always will be. Most of the old regulars that I remember still post often as well. What long time member do you notice that hasn't posted lately?

If you are referring to the "what xxxx do ///M owners yyy" threads, those were started to poke a little fun at the watch thread. Myself, I don't think there is anything wrong with owning and takling about watches. That's great if that is your thing. However I do think it is ironic and mysterious that that thread is allowed to sit in this forum, while all the other off topic thread get sent to the Off Topic forum. If the mods would simply be consistent and move all off topic threads to the off topic forum, I'm sure that none of the copy-cat or parody threads would have been created here - my own beer thread included.

One more thing: I think I provide quite a bit of valuable feedback on this forum, and have been thanked for doing so by members before. But I also post some off-topic stuff and try to interject some funny posts from time to time to keep the mood light. If doing the latter makes me childish, well then so be it - I guess I am just a big kid. But at least I know WTF I am talking about as well.

Cheers

LOL to the guy with 33 posts who said the moderators aren't active on this forum. Between babysitting the SoCal kids, spam, porno, idiotic threads posted in the wrong forum, inscrupulous vendors trying to scam people, and vendors posting in the non-vendor section -- I'd say we have our hands completely full. Besides, I'm of the mindset that we shouldn't really be deleting threads in the first place. Move them to the correct sections, but not deleting them. This forum is here for the public, it is not a moderated forum in the traditional sense (meaning every post and thread needs moderator approval). Therefore if somebody wants to start a thread about any topic (within reason), it's allowed.
I agree with this. The mods do a fine job, and they are not the problem here. The "children" may be extremely annoying to many of us who come to learn something useful or engage in an interesting discussion, but if the "kiddies" are not breaking any forum rules, there isn't much the moderators can do.

Man, I hope you are right. Sad thing is there is also the older element, like my age , who are just as disruptive. Cloaking there negative comentary with token compliments for whatever reason they may have......sad, lonely, pathetic lives perhaps.

I've been here for a while now, posts like swamp, lucids, epacy, savage, then came PG, Le Mans Blue, even Mantis sense of humor, where really interesting to read, it was all about cars, lately the forum has gone down in the quality department, first the "is X faster than the M3", then the "Weird noise threads", then "what do M owners...", the VS section turned into a battle of fanboys and repetitive posts, now it seems like a physics or math lecture on some posts, some of the best posters became mods, they really knew what they were talking about, hope the trolls, fanboys, kids just stay away, there's always a forum for them, to me this was THE source of information and interesting threads, now that's no longer like that
