BMW Not an Android Auto Partner : (

Google just announced Android Auto with over 40 partners:

Quote:
Google just delivered what we've waited for. A comprehensive redesign of the Android operating system designed for your ride. And unlike the handful of automakers that Apple has on board for CarPlay, Google is boasting over 40 automaker partners at launch, with the first cars hitting showrooms this year.

The basis for Android Auto is simple: Plug in your phone and an auto-friendly interface is mirrored on your car's display. Everything is run off your Android smartphone, delivering a clean, simple interface, and the primary input – as it should be – is voice.

What's more impressive than the functionality is the partners. Acura, Alfa, Audi, Bentley Chevy, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jeep, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Opel, Ram, Renault, Seat, Subaru, Volkswagen, and Volvo are all on board. So there's a good chance your next ride will be Android Auto compatible.

BMW, Porsche, Toyota, and Mercedes are the notable exceptions

the execs at bmw are apple fan boys and girls. you can see the favoritism since day one and iphone apps and lack of any support for android until recently as an after thought.

I think BMW has good relations with Apple and will not easily do anything together with Google.

Even the name Android is odd. Does it mean copy everything you can without paying a penny to who has the patents.

there's no need for that.

Android is an OS. Don't get the manufacturers mixed up.

And hopefully BMW will conform to the industry and go with the better choice, or at least, offer both.

I'm going to have to go against the grain here and say BMW doesn't love iPhones. To my knowledge, Android phones have better connectivity for the Telephony system in the cars (iPhones are incapable of properly showing track data from 3rd party apps, Only use of Office is Calendar, that too when used with USB and the BMW app). BMW's system may actually be more geared towards Blackberries, because the system just doesn't seem to cooperate nicely with the latest phones. This could very well just be my experience.

I use Android for both. Calls on the stock BMW Bluetooth & a 3.5mm Bluetooth Receiver in the BMW AUX port for streaming music. When a call comes it pauses the music and puts the call through the stereo automatically and starts the music right back up when the call ends.

Only drawbacks are, no song control from AUX BT (volume only) and have to recharge the AUX BT externally, but so far it's holds a charge for days.
