M5 crashed by BMW test driver in Germany...
July 24th, 2014 Landshut, Germany... At 11:5am A M5 was crashed at high speeds during a test drive in Vilsheim, in Southern Germany. The accident happened in the small village of Vilsheim, near Landshut. The M5 was travelling at a very high speed on the German back roads of this area. The speed limit was 100 kph and its safe to say the driver was travelling much faster than that! The 42 year old test driver drove, the M5 test car off the road to the right side of the road into a ditch. Then the driver tried to regain control but failed. The car had skid marks under braking approximately 50 to 60 meters long. The skid trail to the left of the road and hit a telephone pole, which was demolished by the force of the impact. Then, the car went another further 200 meters coming to rest upside down in a field. The driver was airlifted by helicopter and suffered life threatening injures. He was taken to Landshut hospital. The passenger luckily escape with only minor injures - and was transported to a local hospital. The state attorney's office has opened an investigation into wreckless driving charges and other offences. The value of the test car was aprox 90K euros plus damages to the communication lines(telephone pole) and road surface. Dackel News source... http://www.wochenblatt.de/nachrichte...r;art67,255056

So from the sequence and the picture details the car exited the roadway, traveled across the grassy area and then looks like it hit the embankment before the next roadway and perhaps went airborn as it crossed the next section of roadway? Guy was moving.

I think he was doing a fair old rate of knots from that sequence of photos - he clearly had hardly scrubbed off any speed on the tarmac and not a lot over the field before launching up into the air up that bank which is some distance travelled prior to getting airborne........

Should read "former" BMW Test Driver. I doubt he'll have a license after the authorities finish with him. If he lives and can still drive.
Looks like the boonies. Must have taken them a long time to get out there and get him out of the car.

BUT... even on autobahns where there is no speed limit... the government recommends you to drive at 130 kph. IF you choose to drive faster... AND you get into an accident - your insurance company might not pay for the damages - IF it's your fault. THIS is why people with small <1.0 liter micro cars drive very slow(~130 kph or slower, min speed on the autobahn is 60 kph)) on the autobahn. While faster cars like MB's/BMW's/Audi's/Porsche's you will see cruising at 130 mph and faster. It is not all that uncommon to see a fast car go by at 150 to 190 mph while "normal" traffic flows at 90 to 120 mph. Trucks are limited to 80 kph(42 mph) and then you mix in faster traffic. It all works!! AND.... this M5 crash did NOT happen on the autobahn! It happened on a curvy, bumpy country road where the speed limit was most 100kph max. Could have had a 80 kph limit too - IDK. By the looks of the skid marks - the driver was at least going double those speeds. Maybe even faster!! alleyrivo you might enjoy these videos of mine... what it is like to drive on autonbahns(highways) with no speed limit!
