i have just been noticing that the wheel well gap on bmws seem to get much bigger and bigger as newer models come out. comparing my sis-in-law's 2004 328i and my neighbor's 2014 328i, i can say that the wheel well gap on the 2014 is at least 2" more than the older model. i recently got a 228i and had to replace the springs with h&r's just to eliminate that ugly gap. any idea why bmw engineers / designers are resorting to this design? can it be attributed to bmw's switch to run flat tires which i assume would be more bouncy due to the harder sidewalls?

Sure you are not looking at a sport vs luxury line ? Sport line cars are 2 inches lower.

i noticed this trend pretty much across the model line, although much apparent on non-sport / non-m models. as mentioned, a 2004 328i's stance seem to be much better than this year's, which i find quite disappointing.
