changes in price?

i wonder if it's possible to get driver's seat manual and passengers power seats.. or is that just silly

Pricing hasn't been released yet, and it'll be interesting to see how it all shakes out. I think BMW is completely insane for releasing the 2011's when they did and now changing the options packages, updating the 6FL/639 features and adding a new color just a couple months later.

The latter . It'd be a first. There's power driver's and manual passenger's, but not the other way around.

And yes, I bet a fully loaded M3 with all options after the change will cost significantly more than today, even though there's no new options; just a few improved ones. But the 'base' price should lower a little, although it's rare to find one like that.

These options aren't enough to justify a significant increase, more like natural technology progression imo. Maybe $1k more overall. I agree the base price should be lower, given that they mentioned "less weight and expense" about the manual seats, but ultimately I assume the manual seats are less about saving weight and more about taking away so they can charge for it.

Even though I'd opt for manual because I'm a set and forget type person with seats, it probably does not save much weight, IIRC the e46 didn't show that much difference between power/manual seats on a scale.

Changes to M button!?!

I am missing what is changed with the M button. Sounds just like the current version to me.

The biggest change I was hoping for? Having the car remember the S and D settings between starts, without using the M button. I like S4 and D4, but the system keeps reverting back to 3 level. Makes me crazy!!!!

Out of what is offered, only thing I will miss is the Album Art! I would really have liked that. And that should be just a software upgrade, really.

Yep. The decontenting is a business decision to save costs and increase profit. That said, while they took away the power seats, at least they give you MDrive standard now.

The current MDrive requires IDrive. Speculation (I believe it is still that?) is that this one no longer does. It's the only thing that really makes sense, if you think about it, since IDrive is not standard so you can't make MDrive standard without either making IDrive standard or decoupling the two. Adding credence to the latter, the M3 GTS has (or seems to have - I haven't seen it officially confirmed, but it does have MDM for example) a non-IDrive dependent MDrive. So the software for the BC (the computer in the guage cluster) must already exist.

Did they actually say CA was now available ad-hoc now though? If so, yes, that is welcome (I would have done that if it were an option). The reason I ask is because in the other thread there was mention of a new package (forget the name) that includes CA and other gizmos that used to be in ZTP, among other things.

I dont like it, about quater of the time mine does not unlock or starts complaining about no key, battery was just replace too. Feel like a fool dancing around my door trying to get the door to unlock.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the IDrive still comes with the Navigation if you choose the Convenience package right? I just ordered a September build with Mineral White Metallic and Palladium Silver Novillo (which isn't mentioned in the PDF) and was wondering if IDrive comes with the Navi.

While I'm sure many of us could add to the list of changes, this is a pretty good start and makes me a bit more confident of the direction of BMW. It's good to see them taking enthusiasts who are more performance oriented and less luxury oriented into account: manual seats, de-coupled Mdrive from Tech, CA option separate.

The manual seats, while not a huge weight savings, are one less thing to go wrong long term and they do save weight (as does not having the Idrive/Nav screen and components). I hope this philosophy is extended and carried over into the 1 series M and future M3: allow the buyer to configure the car with less luxury, provide weight saving options, and give the ability to add performance pieces (e.g. Mdrive) w/o needing the weight/cost of other options. The whole "must have tech" to get Mdrive thing on the E9x M3 was not a bright move--but this is a move in the right direction.

BMW, you're on the right track. Keep it moving this way. Give us lighter, less luxury oriented options so that we can option a more hardcore performance oriented car from the overall base. That would provide even a bigger market for your products--one group can option for more luxury while the other goes more hardcore performance. That's a win all around.

I, for one, would go pretty bare bones inside, even less sound deadening, and would love the option to add brake cooling and a BBK all around. Much rather have that than Idrive, Nav, electric luxury seats, heavy split folding seats, overly isolated boring sound deadening, and comfort access....

Guess I'd get manual seats as long as they go lower and are adjustable through the turnable knob and not the lever.... I hate the lever, you can never get into a 100% comfortable position.

I want it, but I don't want nav or edc (going aftermarket in both areas). Almost the same difference now bundling it with the parking sensors (which are useful but I prefer a smooth bumper after having PDC on my E46 M3).

+1 After thinking about power seats being an option what you said makes total sense. A good move for the M Division!

Seriously guys? Power seats being an option is that great? How much weight savings are we talking here. I honestly challenge ANYONE here to notice even a 50lb difference (which i'm sure is more than the difference of the power vs manual seats) while going around a race track in an M3.

The RIGHT direction would have been to introduce the 2011's with all of the changes at the same time. If you want to talk performance, how about a true CSL option. I also think a factory, multi-piston fixed caliper bbk option would be nice as well.

I see this as poor release management and depending on how they price the new packages, a way to get more money out of the same product with a minimum ammount of improvement.
