Quote from news article: "California wants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 1990 levels by the year 2020. In order to do that, the state passed a law, known as AB 32, that is the first of its kind in the U.S. Beginning in 2015, the law's penalty on carbon emissions will also apply to transportation fuels, including oil and gas. That means if your car runs on gas or diesel, you’ll pay more.

Exactly how much more? Nobody knows. Apparently state legislators felt compelled to approve the law first and do the math later. They don’t believe they need to share the pesky details with the folks who elected them. Based on input from various industry organizations and consumer groups, it’s estimated that the cap and trade "tax" on carbon emissions has the potential to increase California’s retail gasoline prices from 16 cents to 76 cents per gallon. Most expect at least a 15-cent increase beginning in 2015.

California drivers already pay the highest prices for fuel and the second highest fuel taxes in the country – 68.1 cents, second only to New York’s 68.9 cents per gallon."
Ugh. I already buy ~ 240 gallons a month, so this is going to suck.

Never cared about gas prices in the cars - couldn't tell you what I am paying these days or at any time and it just isn't a consideration for me. The only thing that constrains my driving in any way is safety and risk of tickets.

For the plane, on the other hand, I pay a bit more attention. I probably buy about 4000 gallons a year of Avgas vs. probably about 1000 gallons of car gas and the Avgas is always at least 50% more expensive than auto premium (at some airports it's $8+ a gallon).

Gas for my daily driver, 87 oct is down at $2.60 a gallon in NJ, $3.40 for 93 for the M. Not bad!

I doubt it will last though.

while gas prices are sticky, based on what is discussed in the crude oil market analysis, we may see further decrease until we hit a price floor.

Basically, the largest producers (UAE, Kuwait, Saudi) who's govt budget only need like $50/barrel to breakeven on surplus/deficit would simply just produce a bit more to reach their finance targets. So they are not incentivized to stop producing and may actually push prices down further by producing more as prices continue to drop, and further contributing to tumbling prices.

I've seen some reports that suggest supply cuts (actually shutdown of wells) wont' actually happen both here in USA/Canada shale production until around $60/barrel.

All the price decreases really fucks up the Venezuela, Russia, Iran, Iraqs, of the world. These countries all have govt breakeven oil budgets of at least $100/barrel.

they're at the mercy of not only OPEC policy (some of them are members) but other major producers who are outside of any cartel setup such as Norway, Mexico, and North American shale who are more opportunistic in production and run it based on real-world business decisions such as breakeven prices of production process itself (and not gov't budgets).

gas is generally cheaper during the winter due to winter mix, see below:

compared to recent years, this years winter gas has been cheaper than past. FTW, keep revving

That's damn good. My reduced price is about 4$ for either diesel or premium.

Costco and Sams have horrible gas. I don't know what it is about them, but I know that AMGs hate the gas from there.

It's about 3.19 on the low end for 93 in surrounding Detroit areas. May be a little cheaper in some parts of the D! I NEED to hit 8600 rpm more. Fall=^HP

Ha its the best isn't it?

I hate people that are careless when filling your car up, slamming the fuel door or just ripping the pump out with gas dribbling out but when its cold/rainy/wet its nice to have someone pump your gas

93 no Ethanol for me. Only one place in Charlotte NC that stocks it but close to my house. Worth it on a weekend car but not on a DD.

NC is fairly car friendly: cheap gas, good weather, mountain roads and no front plate required. We all just don't reid and rite soo good.

$3.01 for 93 @ Costco this morning.

Also a really good article discussing the falling prices and how Saudi Arabia is benefiting from it:
