Which BMWs from the past 10 years are most and least reliable?

When looking at used BMWs over the past 10 years, which models, years, and engines are the most reliable? Which models and years are the least reliable?

The F3x 330/430 and the 340/440 with the B46/48 and B58 motors, respectively, would be some of the most reliable.

I find myself browsing through used car sites quite often and I often see nice used BMWs, but it is hard to know which ones are worth dreaming about and which ones I should be clicking "next" on. I had a 2004 e46 convertible. I loved that car and it really didn't have any serious problems. But there are lots of other models out there and sometimes it is hard to know what is good bet and what is a bad one.

What do you have in mind for the type? Would you like another ‘vert? Or a sedan or coupe or wagon?

If something like this fits what you are looking for I like this car and I think it’s well priced. The yahoos around here have just let it sit. If this guy hasn’t sold it to a dealer in the last week or so you might want to contact him.

Certainly the early N63 engines were problem cars. I have two different friends bit by that motor. One in an X5 and the other in a 2014 550i.

The used prices seem to reflect that although I think if you were handy and policed the plastic parts as they age you might have a good deal on your hands.
