Active rear spoiler won't rise
Hi guys
I have just purchased a used 2014 320i F34 GT, and my problem is the rear spoiler will not extend when manually pressing the button on the driver's door switch block. I get the error message "Active rear spoiler malfunction. Do not exceed 130km/h" on the iDrive/ dashboard. I have also noticed the automatic tailgate lift does not work either. I suspect a faulty spoiler motor due to corrosion, as water keeps accumulating in the area beneath the spoiler where the motor is, and gushes out when tailgate is lifted. So I am wondering if there's any alternative way of extending the rear spoiler in order to check the condition of the electric motor and in the process also clear the drain holes underneath? |

I'd remove the interior trim on the tailgate to see what's going on. The tailgate lift and the spoiler functions do use the same control unit.

I'd advise you get a fault diagnostic tool that can read BMW specific codes to point you in the right direction.
As for the water accumulating you need to unblock the drainage holes. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1193890. |

I went ahead and hooked up 12V to pins 1 & 2 of connector A218*4B, and I could hear the spoiler drive motor make some whining noise and trying to move the spoiler but only about half an inch. The spoiler appears somewhat stuck. I have no idea what might be preventing it from extending fully upwards.

I scanned all 18 ecus using the Carly app, but apparently no error code related to spoiler malfunction showed up, only window initialization codes 030095 and 030015. Last edited by conhan69; 09-12-2021 at 12:39 AM.. |

I would give this a shot. Seems unlikely the motor is the problem. I think the mechanical lift unit attached directly to the spoiler on the outside may be corroded and/or blocked by dirt.

I eventually had to slowly pull the spoiler up manually to full extension, spray hosed the drain holes until both were whistle-clean and PB blasted both ends of the lift unit. After this, I slowly pushed back the spoiler to it's rest position. Job done!

Does it solve problems, what about tailgate lift issues? Does tailgate fixed? |
