This isn't for me, its for a family friend. Ordering this was the last thing I did in Germany as it saved the guy $12k going through me instead of buying it in the states. Fully loaded too. If this thing really is 15mpg, I'm going to be pissed driving it back. lol

We've got a 550i and the mileage isn't really that bad if you drive on the freeway a lot. We can constantly get 400+ miles on a tank.

I'm surprised the 550 has 360 torque... how come a normal BMW V8 can get 360 torque but an ///M V8 (M3) can only get 295?

P.S. I think you should go with the 335 only if its a coupe, if you're talking sedan v sedan, 550 FTW

Well, the guy I'm buying it for travels all over the U.S., so this would probably be his chill weekend car anyway. 15mpg. Wow, this car was ordered when gas was a $1 less per gallon. Oh well.

Well he just told me what he wanted and I ordered for him. I love carbon black, but taking car of cars with black paint is a pain. Now I have to sell him the 550i for $1. What a rip off!

the M engine weighs much less

and it's meant for the track (high revs)

the 5's V8 is more suited for daily drives

08 M3 v8 spec.
Base Number of Cylinders: 8 Base Engine Size: 4 liters
Base Engine Type: V8 Horsepower: 414 hp
Max Horsepower: 8300 rpm Torque: 295 ft-lbs.
Max Torque: 3900 rpm Drive Type: RWD
Turning Circle: 38.4 ft.

How a Natural Aspired engine work is this. It does not use force induction to product power. The way M3 engine was designed similar to BMW F1 racing engine. Most M Engine they used a system to created long and short runner to created more or less air into Intake Manifold.. This mention is to control power it will need it for racing or just out for join ride. V engine are normally more HP than Torque.. If you want to go for quick start at the light, you want to have Inline engine. In a typical Inline egnine, Torque always higher than HP for quick start. Whatever take to win a long distance track, v design always the best. HP will always be faster near at the end of the track. It is very difficult to balance both HP and Torque in a equal weight. Eventhought, BMW Claimed that 335i is 300 hp and 300 lb torque. It is totally fault statement. When you dyno your 335i, you will get 270 hp and 289 lb of torque.

i picked the 550i because it's more reliable. i don't have to worry about common E92 problems such as high pressure fuel pump and constantly breaking seatbelt extenders.

The M3's V8 can rev to 8400 rpm and has 414hp instead of 360hp in the 550i. Plus, the M3 is a 4.0 liter. The 550i is a 4.8 liter. You're not going to be able to squeaze 414hp and more than 360 ft-lbs of torque from that 4.0 liter V8 unless you compromise on its reliability.

HPFP issues are virtually non-existant now. Seatbelt extenders breaking aren't that big of an issue either.

The e9X's have been fairly reliable.

Just got home with the 550. All I can really say is that you have to choose between performance and comfort.

Driving home, the car felt amazing. The interior looks so much better than a E9x. I even got a ticket because I couldn't really hear the engine and I was going 65 on a 45. I'm still pissed about that.

It is a pig though, without a doubt.

If you're looking for a cruiser, then go with the 550. Its 3 times more comfortable than my car. If it wasn't for that damn vibrating steering wheel, I could have fallen asleep.

I completely forgot how good a BMW smells brand new. Pure sex.

As for mpg, it was better than I thought, but that was with a lot of open road. From a stop it does love to chug gas, but on the highway its the same as my 335.
