Well said you can drive a 50k + car but cannt pay for a oil change I mean it's cool that they pay for almost everything for 4yr/50 k but even if they didn't I would still keep buying them

Welcome development for sure.

15k oil change was absurd and i don't know anyone who waited until 15k to change the oil. I changed mine before 7.5k and split difference.

Replace Diff fluid at 50k. Finally, some common sense prevailed as opposed to old "lifetime" Diff fluid.

My 2012 F30 328i (N20) had its first oil change at 26,000mls.

If they are smart, any person who bought an earlier F30 (not leased) and requests the new oil change schedule should get it just for customer relations point of view. These people are the minority these days (like myself) that buy a great car and keep it long term and actually enjoy maintaining a car and keeping it going the right way. With 130,000 miles on my e90 and not many parts replaced outside of wear items my car has hardly degraded from new. Sure the driver seat has some wear on the leather, the exterior doesn't look quite as fresh as the e90 once did but overall these just are not throw cars. But most people in the US either lease or buy and trade every 3-4 years.

1. Sure, they will be glad to.

2. Yes. They will not reset the CBS.

3. No. The CBS uses the number of start/stop cycles and fuel consumption to determine change intervals. That sensor is a second line of defense and will trigger if the oil is really crappy (<< technical term). But that sensor does not say... "Hey, new oil, let's move out the service interval."

I have a 2014 335i waiting in Germany for a ship to the US. I ran the VIN decode here and it shows the new 8KLA ~10,000 mile / 12 month interval.

So there's your confirmation.

Makes sense to me based on BMWs history. BMWNA once told me BMWs maintenance schedule is subject to change at any given point in time regardless of what is published. So, i am SOL for the reason i contacted them. Who waits that long anyway to change their oil ?

I thought the ultimate service provided for oil changes every 12 months regardless of mileage? I read the fine print and that was my conclusion and my dealer changed it free of charge at 12 months even though I only had 7k miles or so. They didn't reset 'clock' either. It always said December so I plan on getting another oil change this winter even though I wont hit the mileage.

Basically, I'll end up with 2 oil changes before hitting the 15k or whatever is recommended. My car says 8k miles till next change or December (8k more miles would put me at just shy of 18k miles, but I'll have more like 13k when I get it changed for the 2nd time)

Yes, the 'ultimate service' gets your oil+filter and windshield wipers changed every 12mo regardless of miles.
Just had mine done and dealer confirmed.

Hmm, we should start a windshield wiper change interval thread next.

I know I always forget to change my wipers on my own until they're basically destroyed, so points to BMW for that one.

Lifetime fluids

So next are they going to backtrack on calling the automatic and manual transmission fluids "lifetime" fluids and introduce change intervals? I have a letter from BMW Group Canada telling me that their dealers won't service these fluids and doing so would void my warranty. Wonder what they'll say next after change intervals are introduced?

I went so far as every 3k miles except for Hybrids.

That Hybrids have same intervals as normal gasoline cars shows an issue as well.

~10k miles between oil changes matches what I've seen recommended in the Blackstone Labs reports (for E9x M3s).

I just had my 320i in for it's first oil change at 5000k, but I was told when I bought it I could come in every 10,000+. Odd, only a few months after that and they're changing the story. I mean, my previous car (Chevy) was recommended every 5000k so I'm going to continue following that model... wonder what triggered this change.

Perhaps BMW is getting ready to move the US to LL04 oils. Historically these oils were only suitable for diesels. BMW is selling more diesels so they will have to stock more LL04. They may save some $$ by moving the entire fleet to this oil and slowly reduce their need to stock LL01 (ULSG is coming) .

For current sulphur levels in US gas in order to use LL04 in gassers you would have to shorten the OCI.

Cost of stocking bulk oil of two different varieties, greater chance of using incorrect oil in diesels, etc etc.
