Is it possible to mod the oem seat to sit lower?

Is there away to mod the oem seat to sit lower? I know aftermarket seats use brackets and they come in diff heights, is there something I can do to make the oem seat sit lower?

I had a loaner new 328 this weekend and that seat sits a lot lower than the m3 seats

I wish there was.. I haven't been able to find any viable solutions to lower the stock seat.

I also agree that the seating position is too high.

You've adjusted it to it's lowest and it's still too high? How tall are you?

6'1, i like to sit low. In my e46 track car my seat is as low as it can go. The bottom of the recaro seat is pretty much a hair's length away from the rail bracket.

I'm 6'3 and doubt I could see over the dash board if I put the seat down as far as it goes haha. You must like it super low!

That's strange, if you are referring the the oem seat.. which is pretty high.. isn't low at all.

is there something i can do to cut off some railing on the stock seat? does anyone have a photo of under the oem seat?

I agree the seats are too high. I literally have to push my seats back to fit my helmet. In my normal driving position my helmet is always knocking the roof.

I am 6'3 as well and I don't have any complaints with the height of the seats.

Put a helmet on and sit in an appropriate driver position for racing and there is not headroom at all.

I'm only 5'10" and have problems when wearing a helmet; I end up having to cock my head to the side a bit. Keep in mind that how tall you are doesn't tell the whole story about how well you'll fit in a given seating position since some people's height is more in their legs and other people have it more in their torso. I'm betting the OP is the latter.

I don't own a helmet but if I did I guess I would have to open the sunroof... I knew it was a good idea to get that option, .

The problem in many people's cases (looks like yours too) is having a moonroof. It takes up a huge amount of headroom, and it is one of the reasons my E90 M3 hunt took me so long to find the right car. I have an E90 330i with a sunroof, so I knew there was no way I would buy an E90 M3 with one. FWIW, I'm 6'2" with more bias to torso I guess. In my M5 (which only came with a sunroof else I would have bought it without the stupid thing) I've got maybe 1.5 finger widths clearance without a helmet on; once I put on a helmet I have to set the seat in a crazy position and then have contact anyway.

In the E90 M3 without a sunroof, I have plenty of room with a helmet on.

Yeah, I figured having a moonroof might create this problem for me, but I didn't like the look of CF with Le Mans Blue, and although I'm not a fan of convertibles for many reasons, I do like being able to roll down the windows and open up the moonroof when I'm out on the endless Hill Country roads out here, especially this time of year. At the end of the day I'm only at the track a few weekends per year, and even with the moonroof I don't notice having to tilt my helmeted head while I'm driving (only for a few minutes after when my neck aches very slightly), whereas the aesthetics and option to open the moonroof are available and appreciated much more regularly.

i had headroom issue in my e46 also with sunroof. i pulled my slider on my recaro and also the headliner and sunroof. now have tons of room. created probably 3 inches clearance above my head and moved the seat down an inch or so without the slider.

There are a lot of people complaining about the"sit-feeling" in the ///M3 !
From day one i had the feeling that i was sitting on top of the seat and not in the seat,so not low enough in the seat !
Seat support and adjustments are ok,but still i have that strange feeling !
Seat is alway's in lowest possition !
But when i drive the Mini i'm sitting a lot lower and have the feeling that i'm sitting in the seat...imagine...sitting lower in Mini than in ///M3 !?!?
I'm 1.89 meter > 6,2" ,even smaller people have this strange sit-feeling in ///M3's !
Start to think that the bottem(soil) of the ///M3 is to high in the car ?

Same here. Did vir this weekend and must get some race buckets. My head is against the roof even in the sunroof area. All my height is in my torso and it sucks.

My daughter has a E46 ZHP sedan without a sunroof -- huge headroom available for helmets, more than even in my M3 without the sunroof.

Thankfully BMW is *finally* figuring out there is significant demand in the USA for cars without a sunroof, so instead of forcing you to have one by having it either standard or part of the premium package, on the M235i there is a checkbox to eliminate the sunroof. Thankfully there were a good bit of E90 M3s ordered without sunroofs...else I couldn't own the car...of course on the E90 it was a $1000 option.

Not having ~50lbs of dead weight at the highest possible location on the car is a nice side benefit.

Probably just that hair sticking up! comb it down and you will have 3 more inches.
