Add that BMW split the cost of the Z4 with Toyota and by having a roadster just to have in the line up, all these things likely contributed and likely not whether a 3er wagon would outsell a Z4 (probably would).
Split the difference and make a Z4 Wagon.

The wagons are now called SUVs

Without Toyota there would never have been a Z4

I'm really amazed that i3 YTD is up 238%!!! Maybe 2020 was exceptionally low due to COVID, but the whole narrative around i3 is that since sales were down and it wasn't competitive/appealing enough in US market BMW decided to kill it, but the numbers definitely say otherwise

I wouldn't exactly call 851 sales in half a year a smash success either.

Agree, and if there was no Z4 I would be waiting on a 718 Spyder.

For example, my local MB dealer has only 9 new vehicles in stock and the lot is empty, my local BMW dealer was pretty similar with lots of open gaps on the new car lot.
You know it's bad when they are putting used Jeeps and Lexus in the front, as my local dealer is doing.

Ah the 6 Series....a car that once was the sexiest and best looking design in the line-up morphed into a.... G32 (via F07). BMW, bring the 5 series touring and end the suffering. These sales figures are excruciating.

Its pretty clear; people who want more cargo space and ease of access go with the X flavor not with G32.

As I sort of alluded to (but did not make absolutely explicit) in my first post, Z4 notwithstanding, vehicles with sales decreases this quarter compared to a year ago are out of production (for the US). In the G32's case, it has been discontinued for two years now. But yes, sales were trending very low even when it was in production, and that's the reason why it's no longer sold here.

BMW Takes Lead in U.S. Luxury Market With Better Access to Chips

BMW Takes Lead in U.S. Luxury Market With Better Access to Chips

BMW AG's U.S. sales blew past rivals' in the second quarter as the luxury carmaker did a better job of stocking dealerships with new vehicles in spite of a global semiconductor shortage.

The German luxury brand sold 96,561 vehicles from April through June, almost double its deliveries a year ago and 35% more than in the first quarter of 2021. It outsold competitor Mercedes-Benz by 14,171 units in the second quarter, and took the lead in U.S. luxury sales year-to-date, edging out Daimler AG's luxury brand by 7,348 vehicles.

BMW seized on pent-up demand from pandemic-weary drivers as a global shortage of semiconductor chips continues to choke off auto production and limit supply.

The company is doing a better job of managing its hoard of semiconductors, which are needed to power everything from radios to braking systems, and that's helping it keep up with dealer orders better than some of its luxury rivals, said Marc Cohen, vice president of Priority 1 Automotive Group in Towson, Maryland. His company owns multiple BMW stores as well as Jaguar Land Rover, Audi, Porsche, Mini, Cadillac and Acura dealerships.

"Even though production is limited or lower, it's not coming to a halt like some of these other brands," Cohen said. With inventory limited, cars being delivered now were ordered by customers two months ago, he said.

SUVs from BMW's assembly plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, take about six to eight weeks to arrive, quicker than the three-month wait for cars coming from Germany, he said.
