Anyone own a 7 passenger vehicle

Hi all, I’m in search for a 7 passenger vehicle. Anyone recently bought one? Would love to hear some feedbacks..thanks

Sorry in advance if I post in the wrong section

This is going to be our family vehicle as we’re expecting our 2nd child next March. Price range will be $40-50K. Our current cars is a M235I and a Acura RDX (RDX will be going to a family member). We live in New England so AWD is a must. We’ll need 7 seater for obvious reasons. So I have narrow it down to the 2014-15 Toyota Highlander and the Acura MDX. Here are a list of vehicles that I’ve opt out.

All are 2014-15 models

Infinity QX60 – we loved this car and this was going to be the one but the new CVT issue was a deal breaker
Nissan pathfinder – again CVT issue
Honda Pilot – new model will be out next year and the look and ride is too off-road
Audi Q7 & BMW X5 – didn’t even look cuz I know is well over $50K
Minivans – too boring, not my style J

Why the Highlander and MDX:

Highlander - good bang for the buck and the Toyota reliability.
MDX – decent styling and luxury, love the new SH-AWD with the torque vectoring. Many reviews compare this to the X5. I know the 2 screens are annoying but I’m not going to get tech pkg/NAV, so not a big deal for me.

We have a ford flex. You should take a look at them also. They are pretty cool that almost looks like a big Mini Cooper. We've had our flex for 3 years now with zero issues. You can load it up with rear entertainment system rear seat heaters etc.... You also have the choice of the v6 ecoboost and AWD should bring the price to around 50k

Toyota Sequoia. very roomy. built like a rock. solid car. seats fold flat in the rear. You can get a used one for 30Gs or less. 2010 and up.

We recently traded up to a GL63, which I will fully expect to be a monster of a car.

I had a Yukon Denali. Really liked it, but much too big for driving around the city. When it comes to full size trucks or SUVs, I wouldn't even consider anything not American. Nobody knows them like we do, or builds them as stout. Japan and Germany don't build trucks, they build "crossovers" that are just glorified minivans (excepting the Gelandewagon, of course).

If you're going 7/8 passenger, might as well go big. I put my vote in for an Armada, you can easily get a loaded one under $35K used (2013, under 20K mi). My '08 has been solid at over 130k mi.

A runner up would be the Sequoia, really nice SUV as well.

Go try out the new pathfinder. I know you mentioned the cvt but give it a go and see how you like it. I've driven all kinds of auto trannies and cvt does the job well for a family hauler. Had a Murano for over 5 years now and it's by far my favorite all round vehicle for comfort, size and fuel efficiency. I tried the qx60 and pathfinder and love both of them.

My choice is the pathfinder for a 7 seater because of the value and overall package. I'll be picking one up when I move back to Vancouver. Give it a try, you might be surprised.

Thanks for all the feedbacks

About the nissan/infinity cvt issue, is not that I dont like the way it feels, its that 2014-15 they change it to a steel belt for the pathfinder/qx60 to increase the towing capacity, etc. This is causing vabration issues for alot of owners.

Dude, ever hear of a Toyota 4 Runner. American trucks are crap compared to Toyota. You can put 300,000 miles on a Toyota and yes the 4 Runner is body on frame. I wouldn't own a Gov't Motor vehicle because it would be in the shop 50% of the time for recalls. If your going to make a statement back it up with some evidence or statistics. Look at the resale value of Toyota trucks and SUV's and the case is closed. Check out how many 4 Runners are available with 150,000 to 300,000 in the used car market because they run forever with very few problems. I'm don't currently own a Toyota but my son has owned a Tacoma, F J Cruiser and now his second 4 Runner and zero problems and 3 of them had over 90K miles. If it were me I'd look at a Highlander, decent gas milage, seats 7 and Toyota quality and resale value. By the way, he's not buying a pick up truck.

We own a Q7. You could find a CPO one to lower the price, especially if TDI, those engines last forever.

But, the back seats are def suitable for teenagers/kids only. Haven't tried child seats back there, our kids ride in middle row.

Good thing, it can tow 6600 lbs. good for bikes, waverrunnes and even a light car + open trailer.

We looked into the MDX but didn't like the lack of torque or the comfort of the front seats which had almost no support. Granted we were coming out of an '08 MB GL which has fantastic seats. Problem with the German larger SUVs is of course cost which has skyrocketed. Our loaded '08 GL Diesel was about $64K; I configured a 2015 the other day and was over $85K easily. Combine high purchase price with costly servicing and they're just not a bargain in any way.

I really like the look of the new GM larger SUVs; Tahoe etc, but they will eat fuel for sure and the question of reliability has yet to be answered.

I would lean towards the Highlander Limited Platinium Hybrid which max out around $53K plus with 2 years free servicing.

If you want to talk about Recalls, better check your data first before bringing Toyota into the conversation. Toyota is the most recalled vehicle manufacturer in the world. Then comes Honda, then comes Ford. GM isn't until 4th, even with these huge new recalls.

I stand by my statement. Full size, 7 passenger has to be American. And it has to have 8 cylinders and AWD.

Picked up a 2014 Highlander Limited (wifeys) a few moths ago, and I gotta say its a pretty nice people hauler, rides well and handles much better than it looks with the 245 19's and I'm getting kinda spoiled by the the blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert.......keep having to remember the that I don't have it in the 3er.....

Yea, Im leaning on the Highlander Hybrid. With a small discount this can be had for $45-47k

Cross out the MDX on my list. Started this year (mdx, pilot, odessey) are built in Alabama. Dont get me wrong, nothing against alabama but its their first year with newly trained employees so Im not wasting $50k on that and alot of MDX owners are already complaining on built quality issues

Have a look at Range Rover LR4, although the starting price is 50k I've heard they are pretty good.

They've gotten really expensive. I paid $62k for my loaded Denali in 2012. Now one gets close to $80k! Escalade goes even higher.

Check out the Dodge Durango with the Hemi. Very nice truck, just pay a little extra for the 7/70 warranty which gets you a loaner vehicle when you need maintenance.

A lightly used Mercedes GL would be within your price range. Go with the Bluetech 350 or 450 gasser. My dad's owned 3, they seem to be great cars and have all the amenities you could possibly ask for.
