Road

Tortilla flat isn't for the weak I have had some close calls on this road, never know when gravel or an oncoming car will send you off. Thank goodness you're ok! Time for a new ride

If you drive like an idiot then you certainly deserve it. He could have killed himself and another innocent oncoming driver. Frankly, I am sick of seeing people like him thinking they own the public roads.

God forbid a car in the opposite lane gets in the way of your street racing.

Lucky he's alive and even more lucky there was no one on the other side of the road... Hopes he really learns his lesson here.

This reminds me of when I learned my own lesson, I was playing around with a young guy in a brand new E92 M3 on a twisty road. The guy overtook me before a blind turn, was too fast and went straight into the barrier in the front. I saw his car flying and sparkles everywhere. The guy was alright but it got me thinking... What if there was someone coming on the other side of the road at this time ? All of them would be dead by now.
So even if you know your car and your limits, the guy you're racing with could be a complete idiot.

Glad he's OK.

Also glad that my wife & toddler weren't coming the other way.

Agree with everyone here who points out that idiots like this kill innocent people every day and think it's an 'accident'. Stay off the roads until you can drive responsibly.

my worst nightmare..
these cliffs are soooo dangerous sometimes people really underestimate the turns and when they lose just a little bit control of the steering, it's "all downhill" from there.

(sorry lol, had to...)

From the comments above it seems like your friend is alright (neither the video or the original post actually say that). Thank god for that, and for the safety systems in place. Looking at the car from the outside it looks crumpled, but from the interior, the passenger zone is impressively intact.
Impressive indeed!

Just the opposite. He's understeering (the front tires have lost traction, so the car isn't turning despite his steering input). You want weight on the front to hook those tires up.

The textbook thing to do would be what we called the "line recovery technique" in racing school. You do a quick and complete lift off the throttle and then get right back into it so that the back end doesn't come around. Ideally, the front tires will hook up as the weight transitions forward and you can get back toward your line. The car will rotate a bit during all of this and that will scrub a bit of speed too.

He was going _way_ too fast though, so chances are any heroic efforts would have meant he'd go over backward instead of forward.
