type your VIN number into google and see where your car is made...

that's the easiest way to see if your child is German or South African!

Where in google ?

Easiest way to see if its a SA car is to look at the 7th last letter in your VIN, if its a N then its from South Africa

Ok, it uses carfax, so only for USA cars

But I found a SA built 325i on ebay, and i still says germany on the carfax site and it says its a V6 engine, so its not reliable

It doesn't work for mine. Not with Google anyway, I posted this like 2 months ago. Type the VIN number in your Yahoo Search Bar!!!

7th to last is K... that must mean i got Munich.. also the yahoo search bar worked and said Germany.. i was very worried because i though i would get stuck with a SA car.

Well as I have said before SA has won the internal quality award for more than 5 years in a row, and Australia reported that SA cars had 80% less defects than Germany built cars they recieved.

Anyway BMW doesnt have a "main" plant

In germany Munich produces 3 Series, as does Regensburg and Leipzig (brand new plant) and Rosslyn in South Africa. 5,6 and 7 Series are made in Dingolfing

The new 6 cylinder engines come from Austria, and the 4 cylinders from England

i didnt mean to imply that cars from SA are of lesser quality. But BMW is a German car and i wouldnt feel as if i had a German car if it were made in Africa by Africans. Its like if they made Gucci in China or India... not that quality is worse, but its just not 100% the same..

Then that's a misconception you should let go of.. from the experiences of previous BMW owners on this forum, the BMW's made in south africa are no less quality (and some say even better quality) than those made in Germany. :rocks:

The 325i's in Canada and the US are indeed 3.0 litres where as in Europe I understand they are 2.5 litres.
