Finished my first Crossfit class today!

Today was my 8th crossfit class over the past three weeks. All my previous classes I've been able to do the entire warm-up and strength, but when I finally get to the WOD I can only do 75% of whatever is planned.

Fuuuuuu... I hate burpees. All of the CF classes seem to be squat/quadraceps focused. I also noticed the place I go doesn't follow the WOD on crossfit.com, but I don't care.

Well today I did:
Warm-up:
-------------------------------
500m rowing

5 rounds of the following:
10 burpees
30 ext situps
50 jumping jacks
-------------------------------
Strength:
8 snatch squats
1 jump squats, add weight = 5 sets
-------------------------------
WOD:
5 rounds of the following:

8 press lifts
7 squats
18 kettlebell swings
8 inverted burpees (I did regular burpees, and for the last two rounds could only do push-ups)

**Every 5 min 10 ball wall throws (I don't remember the name of that)

-------------------------------

I was the last person to finish (23:45), but I did the whole thing. I can't believe I've let myself get this out of shape.

It hurts like hell to walk up the stairs in the house, and hurts even more to sit on the toilet. I'll need a few days to recover, but I'm looking forward to going back for more.

for some reason i feel like you are more prone to injury doing crossfit stuff than regular weightlifting.

Nah. The teachers are huge on proper form and technique. And when I go to the gym I goof off. CF keeps my fat ass motivated. The weights actually aren't that heavy, but the sets and reps are redonkulus.

crossfit is the besttt style of working out if you want true strength, power and speed. I've never worked so hard in my life. been doing it for almost two months now. love it!

OP,

yea doing legit crossfit is going to beat up your body and it really puts a lot of strain on your bones/joints. you have to make sure your resting a good amount and eating plenty plenty of healthy foods to replenish your body.

easily increase your daily water intake by at least another liter or youll end up crashing

Most crossfit athletes care about strength and power. Definitely not for the all show and no go people. I'd def join but so damn expensive for my tastes. I don't see myself doing this too long.

Week 7

Well I'm down about 3lbs, and about 77lbs to go. Last week something gave me the shits, so I was out last week. This week I did 3 CF classes. I think it was a little much, so next week I'm going to do 2 with some treadmill in between.

Couldn't finish the class today, but came damn close:

Warm-Up=
1000m row

Strength=
4 rounds of the following:
------------------------------
5 clean lifts
6 burpees
7 dumbbell cleans
8 dumbell squats

****Every 2 min do 10 jump squats
------------------------------

CashOut
20 kettle bell swings
20 push-ups
18 kettle bell swings
18 push-ups
16 kettle bell swings
16 push-ups
...and keep going all the way down to
2 kettle bell swings
2 push-ups

------------------------------
Some people did the strength portion in 10minutes! It took me 22min. I couldn't go from 20 thru 2, but I made it to 10s. Felt like I was going to puke.

I don't understand crossfit. You workout for speed? I would assume your form would suffer as fatigue sets in, no?

It's not a race versus somebody else. It's a time to show you're making progress. So during the round you don't really feel rushed but when you find out you were ~average or ahead of the pack....or way behind.

The weights are light to begin with. But the sets/reps are crazy. Each exercise has something like: Press lifts 185/125/80 which is 185 for men, 125 for women or 80 for beginners. For form the intructor is on you like stink if you start to slack off. There's usually around 12 people in a class and since people "rotate" exercises the instructor has plenty of time to walk around and give pointers. They also do a good job of demonstrating each exercise at the beginning of class. To be CF instructors they go through a pretty comprehensive training program, so at least there's a basic standard to the instructors (the gyms can vary big time tho). Many of the exercises are legs related, crossfit.com has a ton of demo vids.

It works. There's some dudes that look like they could be in the movie 300. I was picking up a 95lb bar, this guy was picking up a 240lb bar. The bar was bowing when he'd pick it up. But everybody is supportive.

Try out a class. I'm hooked!
