Got the SOB to finally throw a code. Good thing me harassing the dealer resulted in them knowing me well, taking my car in and giving me a loaner without prenotification. Their Techs may be incompetent, but their service managers are great. Threw drive train malfunction, drive moderately error. Read with my Bluetooth OBDII, read 2 codes as below.

P049D EGR valve actuator and 273600. I think OBD app is reading code wrong, since it reads last as P2736, but when you search 273600 it actually brings up EGR also. Since I drove straight from when this happened to dealer, I could not verify with Ista myself. But at least I have a code, so maybe this is what led to my uneven idle. Now I hope it is not related to sooting, since I will probably have to force the dealer to walnut blast the intake. Any opinions on this (besides deleti g EGR of course when my warranty is up)?

Is it possible the EGR cooler replacement recall work may need to be done?

As for turning off EGR: a tune would take care of that, no more dirtying up the engine's innards. Search for Kerma Tuning.

I have also noticed my 2015 328D wagon doing this surge about 3 or 4 times in the last few months. The rpm needle only moves like a mm or so but is a constant up and down while waiting at a stoplight in drive.

It sounds like all LCI N47T engines do this light surging at times, it has to be by design. Annoying, however, especially when you can also feel it. I could live with the sound as long as it idled well when it surges, but it doesn't always idle smoothly. I plan to get Kerma done, sounds like a very highly regarded tune. Waiting to knock a few things out maintenance-wise before I get to the fun part.

Has anyone that had this issue find a resolution/reason? For the first time at 54,000 miles I was sitting at a red light and got this same fluctuation in rpms that everyone is describing.

It was not a terribly cold day (60F), engine was still warming up. Light was right before the highway. No issues driving, no hesitation in the engine. After highway driving no sign of fluctuation after. Will be watching it further.

shiftdnb Yes, I had it Kerma tuned and have not experienced another surging for the last 70k miles. Worth every penny.
