ECS Trailing arms...thoughts and experience?

Looks like a cool mod. Anyone used them yet or have a credible view on the benefits?

Does this replace the stamped looking part with holes?

I switched to spherical bimmerworld units not too long ago and this was the last piece that no aftermarket made. Not bad for $200.

Still no rod ends. Still just need bimmerworld bushings for each end. Who has had a trailing arm fail?

This. I hadn't really heard of any failing. I've seen MRF "box" the OEM ones, but hey lighter is an improvement I guess.

If it's not weakest part of our rear suspension it sure looks like it is. There was an all stock e92 on R888 who had both sides fail at COTA last year.

Happened on Friday, but BMW Austin did get to it until Saturday so you probably saw it back at COTA on Sunday. It was Judy's car.

Mine didn't fail, but I did have to replace them due to fairly significant bending that threw off my alignment.

With that said, I believe they are designed to act as the cheap-to-replace weak link in the rear suspension.

How did you bend them? Track off?

Heres what you get, the bolts are 10.9 grade and are a tad longer than the oem ones

Here it is compaired to the stock one

And bolted on

Cant say iv noticed any difference in normal driving, perhaps for hard launches it will but I just put new rubber on and I don't want to melt them off in 3 months again lol.

They are a substantial upgrade strength/quality wise that's for sure.

Just a question though. The stock arm is specifically designed to flex and bend on impact. It's supposed to be a sacrificial part to absorb the force of any lateral impact on the suspension. With the stronger ECS arm, is there a risk that the forces will be transmitted to the subframe and damage it or rip it out from the unibody of the car?

Our trailing arm while stronger/more ridged than the factory arm is still designed to be the failure point in an impact.

Thank you! Just ordered a set to complement the rest of the components I already have.

A thank you to ECS as well for creating this piece, as no one has a replacement unit other than OEM.

Anybody have a DIY guide? Is it just a matter of jacking up the working side, removing the wheel, unbolting the OEM arm, then bolting the new one on?

Will this require a new alignment after install? Can the OEM bushings be re-used?
