A\C Blowing Warm Air, Passenger Cooler

Hey all,

Started noticing recently my AC getting warmer and warmer. It seems like it's all warm air now, but passenger side seems to be blowing cooler.

Was wondering if this is a big issues or a small fix with a recharge?

Thanks!

In general, an A/C system should not need recharging for many years of use. The refrigerant doesn't get out without a leak, so I would have that diagnosed by a specialist. Unfortunately, there seems to be a fairly common A/C issue with 3-series E9x cars, with the source of the leak being at the evaporator core, which is buried in the dash and takes about 10+ hours to replace by an experienced mechanic. On this forum you will see stories of dealers charging $2000-3000 (mostly labor) to replace the evaporator.

So cross your fingers and hope it's not the evaporator! Even with an extended warranty on my car, I'm hoping not to have this done.

Also, some owners have forgotten to set the thumb wheel dial on the dash A/C controls to the blue side (check it just in case).

Thanks. I just checked and I had the wheel dial on the red side. However, my AC has been acting funny even before that.

I'll run my AC and see how it turns out tonight.

There's a possible recall on something a/c related. I had it done on mine. Can't remember the exact details.
