F30-328i MT gearbox swap from Getrag to ZF
Dear community, I want to share my experience on my 328i MT gearbox.
My car has 160000km and from 80000 km I have tuned the engine with bm3 stage 2 OTS map. I have made a lot of little hardware mods to became safe the power increase that is estimated in 50 Nm at the crank. Last week I have broken my gearbox 2ng gear, and now I would like to improve all the transmission that is too fragile IMO for the N20 setup. I would like to change the stock gs6-17bg from Getrag with the stronger gs6-45bz by ZF. From some research I found that the ZF is installe on the xDrive model (20i and 28i). With the new gearbox I will install also a lightweight flywheel from e92-335is-n54 and clutch from 550i-n63 solving any issues with clutch slippage. So here a list of the required components from the research. I would like to thanks D041987 and RumDomRum for the help. 23007617492 or 23008609414 - Manual gearbox GS6-45BZ 25117605090 and 25117605093 - Gear shift levers 26108678443 or 26108605186 - Rear propeller shaft 33207597686 and 33207597685 - Rear output shafts Rear diff with the gear ratio you prefer (see below). 21207619659 - Lightweight flyweel from 1M 21207603248 - Clutch kit from 335is/550i Minor harware bolts... Since gs6-45bz has different gearbox ratios than Getrag I will install also a new rear differential, and my choose most probably will be a 3.08 from M235i equipped with Wavetrac LSD. I know it is possible to code the final ratio inside DME, and this is possible in the map customization of BM3 platform. But I haven't find any numbers regarding single gear ratios of gearbox. I think it will be important to code also the different gear ratios of the gearbox in such a place inside DME. I suppose DME software check speed to engine crankshaft and wheel speed to verify clutch slippage for example and for rev matching function and cruise control operations. Since the gs6-45bz is installed in the xDrive versions, I suppose it can be possible to code with esys the type of gearbox. I will appreciate any kind of help or suggestion. |
