Townending a écritAprès avoir lu quelques-uns des fils de roulement, et la lecture que cela est causé par une lubrification à l'huile insuffisante, je ne me sentais pas à l'aise avec 10W-60 pour tous les jours. Je serais plus qu'heureux d'utiliser 10W-60 sur la piste.
En utilisant le fluide OEM Castrol et Shell, je n'ai jamais été en mesure d'obtenir le marqueur de température d'huile pour rester à 210F, il augmenterait à 210F pendant que j'étais dessus, mais descendrais à ~ 195F quand je le prendrais facilement. À mes yeux, cela me dit que je ne vais pas obtenir l'huile à la température idéale de fonctionnement.
J'ai ensuite lu sur les utilisateurs (un étant un ami très proche) qui est passé à Mobil 1 0W-40 et a vu une usure acceptable sur leurs roulements. (Je ne peux pas dire avec certitude s'ils ont eu la chance d'avoir une usure minimale, ou si l'huile a réellement aidé.)
Maintenant, avec les informations ci-dessus, j'ai commencé à comparer les viscoisties à l'huile. Après avoir vu les chiffres, j'ai décidé que Mobil 1 0W-40 était trop mince à mon goût. J'avais peur que si je choisissais de vraiment pousser la voiture, le 0W-40 ne serait pas assez épais une fois que les températures commenceraient à grimper.
Je me suis ensuite concentré sur AMSOIL 5W-50 Signature Series, Redline 5W-50 et Motul 5W-50. Motul était un PITA à obtenir, donc cela a été abandonné de mes choix.
Lorsque j’ai pris cette décision, AMSOIL n’avait pas introduit sa nouvelle formule. À l’époque, les statistiques sur papier pour AMSOIL étaient beaucoup plus proches de Redline, elles étaient presque identiques.
Comme je regardais deux grandes huiles avec des spécifications très similaires (basées sur des spécifications testées), j’ai simplement opté pour celle qui avait le plus de sens financièrement. J'achète AMSOIL dans un étui 12QT pour 102 $ * expédié (expédition 1-Jour), ce qui porte à 8,50 $ le litre. Alors que la commande de Redline m'aurait coûté 13 $ le litre, et j'aurais dû payer une tonne pour 1 jour d'expédition via ECS (Mon magasin de choix pour Redline).
Après mon premier changement d'huile avec AMSOIL, j'ai remarqué que le moteur avait un régime beaucoup plus doux en sortant de mon allée après un démarrage à froid. Non seulement cela, mais les températures d'huile restent à 210F pour la conduite quotidienne légère / conduite fougueuse.
Et voilà, mon processus de pensée. Encore une fois, je n'ai aucune preuve concrète disant que 10W-60 n'est pas idéal pour DD. Mais après mes recherches, je me suis senti le plus à l'aise avec AMSOIL ou Redline 5W-50

I'd probably thin it out with a bottle or two of one of their other oils like the 5w40 or 10w40 -- get the HTHS down by 10-12% or so.

They also said that their 10-60 still have all the original additives. However, the EPA keeps forcing oil manufacturers to take out more and more of the additives.

Im debating the switch to 5w50 given the recent advice, but Im skeptical.

I loved Redline oil when I raced, but it left the engine a lot of varnish in the S50 I was running. Granted, the engine ran stupid hot until I went to prepared class and could pull the condenser.
5w-50 probably is too thin for me now that I have BE Bearings in the car (though the mains would probably prefer the thinner 5w-50).

Not sure how relevant this test is, but in this comparison Motul seems to achieve the best results of 10W60 oils.
Also, I have found that Liqui Moly 10W60 has HTHS value of about 3.5, which seems to be very low.

Their tech support is very responsive and informative, email them for clarification. I had a similar question about their MRV result and it turns out they are being conservative. MRV and HTHS are both rather variable so often averages are listed IIRCC.
