just got this from circle bmw and doing install tomorrow and coding on saturday.
finished install today super easy. took about 30 minutes. should have done this a long time ago. only hard part was lining up the plastic siren mount to the holes blind and starting the threads. all in all a very easy install thanks to this thread.
thanks MDCTFTW for the great DIY

I just did this installation on my 09 e90 m3 and the alarm works right after the installation. See video below

what does the activation get you?

Activation will activate the alarm system in your car and will change VO ... also you will have an option on idrive to turn on / off the sound confirmation when you lock/unlock the car ...

Only if you like to follow instructions
Great thread!

Can someone share the part number for the OE alarm retrofit kit?

Also is there a different kit depending on the car's MY?

My 2010 has no hood switch :thumbdown (my 2008 did!) so I need whatever kit that includes that.

TIA

Edit: For the sake of grouping all the info into one thread:

Cars built before 03/2009 -> part number 65120403658
Cars built after 03/2009 -> part number 65120399635

More info for the later cars HERE
Some will need a new mirror (clown nose), door lock etc.
I didnt see an option to order an alarm on the 13 ? is it standard? not an available option period?
Nice DIY. Installed the alarm a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to the coding this past weekend.

Did the coding myself and it was very simple. Add +K302 to your VO in both CAS and NFRM. After that use expert mode profile to code your DWAI, DWAS, CAS and CAPPL (if you have Idrive) modules to defaults.

I you're like me and had previously coded your CAS and CAPPL modules and don't want your changes overwritten then code DWAI and DWAS to defaults and change the following values in CAS and CAPPL.

MOTORHAUBENKONTAKT (hood switch), thanks onebadmofo

-CAPPL: (change if equipped with idrive) It gives you the option to enable or disable the chirp

Are there only 2 parts to this kit? The horn and the sensor? No module or anything like that?
NICE
Has anyone found a source for second hand alarm parts? I imagine that some E9x cars are starting to find their way into salvage yards as insurance write offs.
I installed this and the horn screws for the lid under the chassis is a real pain in the rear. It took me a while to line up the two screws. Other than that it was a breeze.

Thanks OP.

I have an 08 E92 M3 that says it was pre wired for alam. Do I just need to cod it to activate it? How did you do this coding yourself? Do you need a coding cable?
no coding wont do it you will have to buy the motion sensor unit and siren as indicated throughout the thread.

You need to buy the alarm kit, install it and then do the coding. Check out the coding section on e90post....that'll get you started.
