Après plus de 6 ans et 60 km avec mon Ohlins R/T, il est enfin temps d'essayer quelque chose de nouveau. Je commence ce fil de discussion pour documenter mon achat, l'installation et la révision de la suspension TracTive Touring avec leur contrôleur ACE.

TracTive Touring Line pour E9x M3

À propos de TracTive
TracTive est un nouveau petit fabricant de suspensions des Pays-Bas qui a été lancé en 2010. Ils ont commencé leur activité dans la suspension de motos (comme Ohlins) et se sont récemment aventurés dans les applications automobiles de rue et de sport automobile (également comme Ohlins). J'ai entendu parler de TracTive il y a 2-3 ans et j'étais intrigué car ils fournissent une configuration de suspension semi-active réglable en voiture qui serait idéale pour moderniser mon E92 M3.

Bien qu’ils soient relativement nouveaux sur la scène automobile BMW, ils sont bien connus parmi les gars Porsche. La recherche Rennlist a donné lieu à de nombreuses critiques élogieuses sur l'amortisseur TracTive associé aux contrôleurs DSC Sport. DSC est une société distincte qui fabrique des contrôleurs de suspension compatibles PASM qui sont jumelés à des amortisseurs TracTive. Assez bien pour une GT3, assez bien pour ma M3 je suppose.

Je vais faire de mon mieux pour expliquer les technologies uniques dans la suspension TracTive, mais je ne suis en aucun cas un expert afin que je puisse me tromper (et s'il vous plaît n'hésitez pas à me corriger). Je vais aussi directement plagier du matériel de marketing car je pense qu’ils l’expliquent mieux que je ne le peux.

Réglage dynamique de l'amortissement (DDA)
Le cœur de l’amortisseur Tractive est sa valve DDA brevetée. La valve DDA est la valve d'amortissement interne bidirectionnelle la plus rapide et la plus stable au monde. La vanne DDA peut répondre aux commandes du contrôleur en seulement six millisecondes (des conceptions de vanne comparables répondent en 80-100 millisecondes). Contrairement à d'autres électrovannes, la vanne DDA peut également répondre aux commandes de mi-course, permettant des performances d'amortissement encore plus instantanées. Cela signifie que l'amortisseur TracTive peut dynamiquement passer de plein doux à plein dur dans un battement de cœur pour réagir aux événements de suspension comme des bosses, des nids de poule ou des trottoirs sur piste. Le DDA est conçu pour échouer dans un état fermé (plein dur).

Valve DDA

C'est en fait très similaire à la façon dont E9x M3 EDC fonctionne. La principale différence ici est que le TracTive DDA réagit beaucoup plus rapidement que la vanne BMW EDC. Donc, fondamentalement, l'amortisseur EDC stock ne peut pas suivre avec l'ECU EDC, mais les amortisseurs TracTive peuvent.

TracTive construit les amortisseurs pour le Pagani Huayra Roadster BC qui utilise la même valve DDA que l'application E9x M3.

Contrôleur d'électronique contrôlée active (ACE)
Les amortisseurs TracTive sont compatibles plug & play avec E9x/F8x M EDC. Si votre voiture a EDC, vous pouvez obtenir le jeu d'amortisseurs TracTive Touring et le connecter directement à EDC pour profiter des performances de la valve DDA. En fait, il y a quelques bonnes critiques sur les forums F8x.

Ma voiture n'avait pas d'EDC, donc j'avais besoin d'une manette autonome pour travailler avec les amortisseurs TracTive. Entrez dans le contrôleur ACE. Le contrôleur ACE comprend un module de commande avec capteur G, une unité d'affichage et le câblage nécessaire à tous les amortisseurs. ACE vous offre un contrôle indépendant de l'amortissement depuis l'intérieur de la voiture. Non seulement vous pouvez régler la fermeté de l'amortisseur avant et arrière, mais vous pouvez également ajuster les interférences en roulis (gauche / droite) et en tangage (avant / arrière) pour un freinage stable et une entrée contrôlée dans les virages. Donc, théoriquement (parce que je ne l'ai pas encore testé), vous pouvez régler les amortisseurs à pleine mollesse et rouler à pleine raideur. Au milieu du virage, lorsque le capteur G détecte un roulis, il rigidifie les amortisseurs pour réduire le roulis.

Il existe également un contrôleur R-ACE spécifique au sport automobile qui combine tous les avantages de la technologie ACE avec l'ajout d'ajustements de compression secondaires à basse et haute vitesse, adaptés aux applications et à la discipline du sport automobile.

L'année dernière, TracTive a mis à jour son écran ACE du style bar plus ancien au nouveau look GT3RS. Cet écran peut être monté dans une bouche d'aération (montage F8x ci-dessous), mais j'ai décidé de prendre un autre chemin car je ne voulais pas abandonner une bouche d'aération. Plus à ce sujet plus tard. L'écran ACE est fabriqué par CANchecked.de.

TracTive Touring Line
Comme ma voiture passe 98% de sa vie en tant que conducteur quotidien et sculpteur sur canyon, j’ai décidé d’opter pour la TracTive Touring Line qui est directement comparable au kit Ohlins Road & Track. En outre, le Ohlins R / T pour moi est la suspension de rue parfaite pour nos M3, offrant un contrôle du corps incroyable avec peu ou pas de sacrifice sur le confort. Si le TracTive peut fournir les mêmes performances que Ohlins R / T avec réglage de l'amortissement dans la voiture, je considérerai un produit étonnant.

Ci-dessus est l'image du produit de TracTive site Web pour E9x Touring kit. Le kit que j'ai reçu a des différences mineures, par ex. Le mien n'a pas de ressorts auxiliaires. Jusqu'à présent, il semble très bien fait et certaines des choses initiales que j'ai remarquées sont:

- Les amortisseurs sont anodisés noir et orange, la construction est de très haute qualité
- Les ressorts sont des ressorts eibach sportline (rouge) avec des taux similaires à Ohlins R / T
- Les amortisseurs avant sont inversés monotube
- La précharge du ressort avant, la hauteur et la hauteur de lien d'extrémité antiroulis sont réglables indépendamment
- Des liens d'extrémité antiroulis sont fournis

Garantie
La suspension de TracTive est garantie pendant 2 ans / 50 000 km. Les amortisseurs sont également reconstructibles par TracTive.

C'est tout pour ce premier post. Jusqu'à présent, tout semble bon et j'ai hâte de tout installer et je peux le tester sur la route.

I was looking at these awhile back as it was the second coilover option to retaining EDC. Very curious on your thoughts when you get them installed!


I remember in a previous hunt:

Tracktive Touring EDC coilover spring rates:

Front 48 N/mm and rear 120 N/mm
Front 275lb/in and rear 685 lb/in
Installation Note
TracTive Touring Line is designed to be plug & Play for E9x M3 EDC. So for those coming from non-EDC (like me), you need to make sure you have the EDC top mounts front & rear which are for 12mm shaft (not the 10mm non-EDC ones).

Also, the following items from stock EDC suspension need to be re-used:
1. Front and rear strut top mounts
2. Rear bump stop and cover
3. Rear top and bottom rubber spring pads

The above items are not included in the TracTive kit and it is a good idea to replace them when installing the new suspension.
Display Type & Mounting
There are two types of display available for the TracTive kit. The newer one is GT3RS-style and is also the one that ships by default. The GT3 style display is touchscreen and does NOT include the controller knob. So you will need to use your fingers only.

The 2nd display type is the older bar-style display. This older display is available with the controller knob and is preferred for motorsport use as its easier to make adjustments/selections especially while wearing gloves. If you prefer this older display style, you need to specify that at the time of purchase.

In hindsight I wish I had gotten the older bar style display as I would like the knob and my display will be hidden most of the time.

[Edited] The display is NOT powered by a Micro USB cable. It receives power from the two connector blocks. While a Micro USB cable is provided with the display, it does not seem to be used for normal display operation.

While you can spec for an air vent mount when you order the TracTive kit, I was reluctant to lose an air vent and decided to mount the ACE display inside the front ashtray for a cleaner look.

With some Dremel work and creative positioning it is possible to mount the display inside the ashtray. You will need to grind down the front and back edges of the ashtray or the door won't close over the display. You will also need to get a flat 90-degree USB cable or you won't be able to fit the power cable to the display unit.

Note: If you want the air vent mount you need to specify it at time of purchase as the faceplate is different.
Glad to see you taking the plunge on these! The details seem right up my alley, but their limited exposure on this platform make it tough to take the jump. Ohlins R&T (from Sweden, fyi) are my second choice, so your input will be especially interesting.

For BMW platform, the F8x guys have been using TracTive for a while now. But it's certainly not as mainstream/mature as Ohlins.

Stock M3
Front = 160 lb/in (28 N/mm)
Rear = 550 lb/in (96.3 N/mm)

Ohlins R/T
Front = 343 lb/in (60 N/mm)
Rear = 685 lb/in (120 N/mm)

TracTive Touring Line
Front = 137 lb/in initial, 271 lb/in secondary (24 N/mm & 47.5 N/mm)
Rear = 480 lb/in (84 N/mm)

TracTive spring rates seem on the low side. I asked the engineer about this and he said that the DDA valve will firm up to to provide additional spring rate. Let's see if it does what it says.
Agree that the spring rates seem on the low side but I've heard great things from TracTive from a few P car guys. I've been eyeing this kit for myself so I'm really eager to get your feedback.

Especially since you have such a long history with the Ohlins R&T, which is also a kit I've been considering as well. It would be really nice to have functioning EDC so I have high hopes for the TracTive setup.

Edit: I may have missed it, but are you going to use the stock top mounts as they suggest or do camber plates?

Interesting, I wonder what the springs I mentioned earlier are from. Maybe not the touring line.

I will be using it with the Vorshlag plates I had on my Ohlins.

They may have revised the spring rates. The distributor did tell me I'm getting the latest version. Also the current version no longer has helper springs like the original one did.

Figure as much! Some brief research and discussions with Wyatth, the F8x ones also didn't include rear height adjusters in the early iterations.

FYI...i contacted US distributor, Inertia Lab, sometime ago and in comparing the factory price ($3600usd) to what they were quoting ($4500usd) didn't line up...i politely questioned them and got the "oh we misquoted you" line...my enthusiasm cooled off afterwards...their quoted price to me as of Feb 27 was $3900usd plus shipping (from EU or TX i'm not certain)...
Wow, those revised (or corrected) rates do seem soft! I somewhat like that given my intended street use, but a surprise nonetheless for an aftermarket offering.
Here's some pics during the install. It's been taking longer than expected as I had to source for the stock rear spring perches (my Ohlins didn't have them) and the lower one is sold out nationwide. Took me a while to borrow a used set from a friend. Also, I had bought the wrong Powerflex rear strut mounts (10mm) and they needed to be modified to 12mm.

It's also the first time the race shop is installing a TracTive set so they're being extra careful.

TracTive recommends you mount the ACE g-sensor module as close to centerline of the car and next to the driver if possible. It needs to be mounted to somewhere solid and secure where it can detect the g-forces.

We could not find any space for the sensor module on the center tunnel and the closest place available to mount it was on the floor directly behind the driver seat, as close to center as possible. We used strong double side tape to secure it. TracTive said this position was ok.

Can anyone please clarify for me the situation with the power flex top mount bushes on EDC? Pretty much all the info I can see says they are not compatible with EDC. Eg if you look at the Turner and/or ECS strut mount pages the only rear mounts shown as compatible with EDC are the genuine BMW ones.

I believe all TracTive sets are made to order, so probably shipped from Netherlands. They're a small shop and now involved in some OEM manufacturing and motorsports, so expect long lead times. I ordered early November and it only arrived end Jan, partly due to Xmas and NY holidays.

I had the same situation when ordering PF rear strut mounts. The main difference between EDC and non-EDC is that EDC has a 12mm top shaft, and non-EDC is 10mm.

Powerflex has both 10mm and 12mm rear strut mounts, but lists the 12mm as for aftermarket suspensions. When I ordered my PF 10mm rear strut mounts from FCP Euro, I asked and they confirmed that EDC should fit. Guess what, it didn't. Luckily for me, it was easy enough to bore out the metal sleeve to 12mm.

Don't make the same mistake I made. Order the 12mm ones.

How odd, I remember it was 14mm EDC, 12mm non-EDC, 10mm non-M when I was buying rear shock upper mounts for my MCS 2WNR.
