Those who have changed their own oil please post!

Hey guys, Im about 7k on my 09 E93 and my last service was at 1200. And the next was scheduled for like 11-12k I forgot.. But I cant go more then 5 without it bothering me. For those who have changed their own oil can you leave some feedback and advice anything that is + that can help make it smooth and best as possible with no problems

I've changed my own oil on my previous older cars integra g37s 350z just wondering if the M3 is any more exotic/different electrical wise or is it just the simple oil and filter getting changed without anything being reset electrical wise, Ive also tried a search didnt find anything so hope this isnt a repeat thanks! Also did the research where to buy it at least so ppl talk abou tit lol

You probably already know this, but you can also get a change one year after 1200 mile service as well as subsequent services too. Just notice it was an '09, and that may help you out......

It was easy. Just don't overfill and follow the many posts here for the DIY

i say do it the easier way. buy an evacuator for like 80 bux off ebay or amazon and then use that because u wont have to get underneath the car. here is the link to the evac:

pretty simple, u just pump the oil out and then change the filter, and add new oil. done. u can even wear nice clothes doing it.

I had one of these a few years ago, worked well. But, no dipstick, where would you suck the oil out from? Oil fill cap won't work.

I get oil change kits from Tischer. The price isn't cheap but seems reasonable for genuine BMW parts delivered to my door.

I add 1 quart less than stated capacity regardless of what I am changing oil on. Then I get the car on a reasonably flat surface and check it. With the bimmer you have to drive until it warms up to get a reading which I do not love but it is what it is. I do not believe you can hurt any car by being 1 quart low while driving it easy. Even if you pushed it a little, you shouldn't hurt it.

I do not know if it's the indicator or what buy my 128i says it is full (completely) after 6 quarts instead of the 7 quarts supposed capacity. After a few more oil changes using the Tisher kits I will only need a filter.

The BMW oil filter kits also have a new metal washer for the drain plug - in your case I guess it plugs. You have to remove and replace a couple O-rings on the filter housing which is easier with a little screwdriver or ice pick. I use the smallest screwdriver piece on my leatherman Micra.

I got my oil filter housing wrench from Bavarian. It was cheaper than the BMW dealers and it works fine. You could use a towel on pliers or something but it seems worthwhile to me to just get the wrench. I think it was about $15.

I've always removed O-rings with my hands by just squeezing them with one hand, and rolling the O-ring out of the groove with the thumb from the other hand . It takes little strenght, and zero damage. Just did an oil change on my M3, and it was cake to remove both O-rings. I avoid sharp tools at all costs, even wrapped in something as they usually poke right thru.

OP, you got good advice man. I'd only add to learn how to properly check oil level and you'll be set. That'll make topping your oil level a snap . Good luck.
