How do you store your watch?

Hey fellas, how are you storing your collection? Are you using a watch case? Perhaps a stand or some DIY holder? Snap a pic of your solution and tell me why you like it.

i'm using a watch box. i'll try to take a pic of it soon. it's overflowing so every time a i buy a new one something gets bumped out. now i'm looking automatic winders so i don't have to wind shit every other day.

i'm glad you made this thread because i was going to soon. the boxes can get quite expensive themselves and can be appreciated too.

this is the last one i bought. i'll try to get some pics of it full.

Yea, I've been wondering for awhile now how everyone deals with their collection once it starts getting big. Also, as you said, the boxes aren't cheap and are quite nice.

That's pretty nice. You mentioned that this one was the 'last' one you bought. Mind me asking how many boxes you have?

only two. getting ready for the third.

mind you, these are for the wife's watches too. she's more into fashion brands. i go for mid level like tissot and up. my highest is only like $5k which is a lot for me. i'm not a watch snob, i respect all watches.

I use the watch winder box to store my Breitling when not using always ready to wear.

^ damn... i like that.

i want to get one that does a few at a time the the price starts getting steep then i end up buying another watch instead of a box lol

You can get up to 4 linked together and stack them up like legos.

I have 2 boxes that hold 24 each with glass top. Don't use a winder for my autos.

I use a DIY watch box my kids made for me and little, homemade cloth pouches.

Each watch is stored in a small pouch that Mother made. Neither the box nor the pouches are elaborate, but both "get the job done." The pouches are by far the more important of the two because they are perfect for storing a watch on the rare occasion that I do take a second watch when I travel.

You can make your own pouches too. It's basically a pillow case with a drawstring at the top. If you don't think you can figure out how to fold the top of the material and sew it to make a tunnel though which you can pass a string, you can use a rubber band to close the thing. LOL.





I know some folks will toss their watches into a drawer and end up with what resembles a knot of snakes. There's not much wrong with that method either if it works for them and they don't care if the watches scratch each other from time to time or over time. I'd suggest putting a felt liner in the drawer so they don't slide about noisily wen the drawer is opened quickly, but otherwise...whatever works...



Why I like my watch box:

• It gets the job done. Each section is big enough and the whole thing is covered.
• It doesn't occupy a lot of space and fits inside the drawer of my nightstand, as well as under the bed, or in the safe when I'm going to be away from home for a long time, which is almost always the case. (I'm in D.C. ~100 days/year at the most.)
• It doesn't take up a lot of space.
• It doesn't inspire me to display my watches on top of my dresser or on a table in my bedroom, which would use space that I need for other things.
• My kids made it.

TY...they did, although the one pictured is representative, but not the one they made. (I'm not in D.C. right now.) They did as nice a job, however...of course, they kinda had to because they whole reason they did it was as penance/punishment. I doubt they'd have done it otherwise...more likely is that they'd have just bought one for me if they'd have wanted to give me one.

FWIW, they used power tools, not saws and chisels. They were all in their teens at the time and I suspected it might be the last opportunity I'd get to co-opt them into doing something like that, so I made sure to get something good out of it.

I rotate between my GMT BLNR, Daytona and Bell & Ross. I use an Orbita winder to store them.

The white Daytona and my minty GMT Pepsi are in my gun safe in their original boxes

No watch needs a winder. People need winders. Why? Because their lives don't allow them to operate the watch often enough to stir the the lubricants inside the watch so as to keep them from losing their viscosity.

what do you do with all your other ones?

i dunno.. but i enjoy setting my watches

it's a little ritual every morning... choosing which one to wear, setting it to the exact second

maybe i'll have a need for a winder if i ever get some crazy perpetual calendar movement that's a pain the ass to set

otherwise, most of my watches are hacking/winding.. so it takes all but a few seconds to set it

I let them sit in their pouches until I want to wear one of them. When I want to wear a green shirt, I may choose the Milgauss. If I am going to a formal event, I'll wear one of my very dressy watches. Blue outfit, I grab the Marine.

I just pick something based on my mood and wear it when I return home. When I am headed out of town again, I grab my Constellation and go. While I'm gone, they mostly sit. Occasionally, my sons will borrow one and wear it. For example, my youngest is wearing one of them as he does his gap year traveling.
