HPDE at NJMP Lightning last Saturday. First HPDE at this track, and third overall in this car (did “XTreme Xperience” super car thingy at Lightning with my daughter a couple of years ago but they only give you 3 laps in each car). Ran with the intermediate (yellow) group and got cleared to solo. First time on 200tw tires, which was a blast. My car is mostly stock otherwise, with camber plates and solid subframe bushings.

Had a blast though my fastest lap was only a 1:21. Technique isn't too bad but still a bit tentative on the throttle at times on the straights. At my age I'm not quite as fearless as I used to be, and also a little afraid to wreck my DD, lol. But definitely planning to do 3-5 HPDE a year from here on out and keep improving!
Anyone going to mid ohio for mvp track days 9/26-28? Going up with a buddy for the weekend, would be good to see some E90/2s!

Wish I could but I will be with a couple friends in NJMP the weekend before, then I have Road America in October with BMW CCA, you going to that?

It’s my son’s 6th birthday that weekend. I get away with a lot for this stupid hobby. That may be a bridge too far lol.

Have you seen the schedule for it? With OFast and the club race(s?) this year, there isn't going to be much HPDE time.

Yep, 4 25 minute sessions Sat/Sun but I also signed up for Friday which is open track for all advanced. I think with Friday it should be good from a lap perspective.

Man, this place is dead.

I’ll go — here’s what happens when you design your own wing mount, and under size it. The side with both ears missing is the side that failed first.

Failed at speed? Looks like the pins held (?)

While towing, so yes but not on track thankfully. Pulling it down while on the shoulder of a busy highway was not particularly fun though.

Maybe they weren’t truly undersized… just not designed for following closely from an elevated position for an extended period of time. ;-)

I think the actual issue is the trunk mounts. I had them made by sendcutsend so it s plate with a bend in it. I think that allowed for too much lateral flex (vs a machined one) so the whole thing rocked side to side more than it otherwise would have. Probably fatigue failure over time.

Jesus, thank god you weren't in the car on track...that could of sucked for you or another person behind you. Glad its minor damage!

Yeah that could’ve gone real bad, on the highway too. 6’ long chunk of aluminum flying around would’ve been a bad day for anyone on the receiving end. I was shocked that there was no apparent contact with the back of the car, either. Just the wing itself.
