I'd usually just try to lube them up and then fight it off by hand.A cheap set of exhaust hanger removal pliers is a must for me... $15 on amazon. They're life saving if you're using stock hangers with an aftermarket system where the hanger nip is oversized.

I used these when changing out my exhaust. Spray some WD40 in the hangers and they come right off.
