I'm looking for a PC/PS4 wheel.

Originally, I was considering the a Thrustmaster option with the Sparco P310 wheel but after reading some more, I'm leaning toward the CSL Elite Racing Wheel BMW GT2 package.

Is the only option to buy this level of base/wheel direct from the manufacturer at full retail?

I searched Game Stop and Best Buy but they only seem to list the entry level stuff, if at all.

Or should I just wait for the PS5 later this year to see what's released?
Go Fanatec, you wont be disappointed. I have CSL with BMW GT2 and F1 wheel, along with CSL pedals + Load cell. For PS4 sim racing its perfect.

I would expect it to work with PS5 as well.

This... You absolutely get what you pay for.

I was in the same boat a couple of months ago and the Thrustmaster and Logitech stuff, while good, feels like a toy compared to the Fanatec.
AKA BMW vs Hyundai
+1 on Fanatec. I have the CSW2.5 wheel base, McLaren GT3 wheel and CSL pedals with the load cell

Unfortunately yes
My brother did a ton of research on Fanatec before buying, it is simply impossible to get any kind of discount on their stuff. Zero discount.
I had the Thrustmaster T300RS for two weeks, then got the Fanatec CSL Elite with F1 wheel and load cell. If I had to do it all over again and had a sturdy rig, I'd go straight to DD wheel.

Anyone who says that's dumb is a hypocrite because you all do the same shit with mods on your car...:D

Fanatec gives you a great ecosystem with many more options, like loadcell brake pedals. Thrustmaster also has an ecosystem, just much less expansive and no LC pedals.
They have a LC pedals now. Just out of stock right now, I have it and it's decent
