New "Potential Spammer" Alert

The past couple of days we encountered successive waves of so-called "Korean SEO spam".

We keep systematically nuking that spam (hard delete: all spam posts merged + all contents replaced by a single character + merger with a dedicated dummy post for total annihilation of the spam + IP addresses permantly banned).

Give us a heads-up if you spot more spam surfacing for more than a day.

Just in case: you do know an IP address does not permanently (often assigned automatically) identify a single (gateways/networks, proxies, VPNs) computer/device (and even smartphones are multi-user now), don't you (thus banning an IP address you really "nuke" striking more than a spammer)? That might be superfluous. Or do you actually mean "spammer accounts" by "IP addresses"? Pure spammer accounts with no legitimate posts should probably be deleted (to avoid eating up the storage and the namespace ). Also, quotations of those spam posts should be included for total annihilation of the spam, I guess.

Spam bots try to outsmart search strings by replacing characters of the spam website name (to no avail).

Always surfacing (early) morning GMT in 'The Sports Lounge' section. Lately systematically four posts per newly created spam account. We systematically 'sanitize' the section and permanently ban the accounts. But we know that they will keep coming back.

Keep reporting those posts.

Early morning riser here. I’ll be on the lookout in the sports forum. I normally don’t pay attention to that forum.

I report them whenever I see them. We gotta keep these guys out of our forum.

The referenced spam series are usually posted (early) morning in Europe (noon/afternoon in the East/Far East - night in the USA) in "The Sports Lounge" section.

Can you make that section (and the rest of the OT section for that matter) as only visible to logged-in users? That would take away their SEO value when crawlers cannot index those pages any more, and probably also save gobs of bandwidth and SQL database reads by crawlers retrieving multiple decades of posting cruft.....

I just flagged a bunch of them. Pretty ironic I can’t rapid fire report them. I have to wait 30 seconds between reports.

I too have been frustrated w/30sec and the last 2days I think the secondary spam link feels broken or not responding when clicked like I've been blocked from that selection.

I got four of them earlier on, they were coming on later than they have done before.

It is. You mentioned you were a: collecting your tenants' money before they can earn it or before they can spend what they earned yesterday? cmyx6go needs to get to her office first to set a table for her employees before they arrive, to greet them properly.

I actually come in early not to deal with rush hour. I have no patience for the morons on the road. I normally leave home at about 6:15 am and I'm here in 20 minutes, sometimes less . Every now and then I come in late - 8:00-9:00ish - and I want to stab myself. It takes almost an hour and reminds me why I come in so early. Plus I get a lot more done in those 2 quiet hours before the phone starts ringing and everyone gets here.

We now return to your regular scheduled programming....
