F-8H Crusaders of VF-211 "Checkmates" with hooks down preparing to land on the USS Hancock (CVA 19) during the Vietnam War era.
I think I've stated before that the Vought F-8 (old F8U) is the "prettiest" aircraft of all in my opinion. VF-211 amassed an enviable record during the Vietnam War -- scoring the most kills of any fighter squadron.
The Hancock was commissioned in 1944 and fought in World War II with 400 mph fighters. Twenty years later it was operating 1,000 mph fighters.
