Mechwarrior / Batttletech

A friend got me into Mechwarrior 5 recently (ps5, i know i know, i dont have a pc lol) Last time I played one was way back on ps1. This time, I do want to find out more about the whole battletech lore. I know about sarna.net, but am not sure where to start, as that seems more like an encyclopedia vs a story guided book. I also understand there are 20+ books to read.
