The best lap remains with Max!

Kimi literally talked to his tires for the last 20 laps of the race:

"Every lap on the straights, I was asking them: please, hold on until the end!"

Kimi started 17th and finished fifth, even with a 5-second penalty for a false start that no one could see with the naked eye.

🟠 Official team statement (under the spoiler, in case anyone else hasn't):

"Following the Las Vegas Grand Prix, it was determined that we had breached Article 3.5.9 of the Technical Regulations, which requires a minimum slat thickness of 9 mm. It was found that car #4 breached this requirement by a maximum of 0.12 mm at the rear of the slat, and car #81 breached this requirement by a maximum of 0.26 mm at the rear of the slat.

During the race, both cars experienced unexpectedly high levels of drag, not observed in practice sessions, resulting in excessive track contact. We are investigating the causes of this behavior, including the impact of accidental damage discovered on both cars after the race, which resulted in increased floor movement.

As the FIA noted, the violation was unintentional, did not constitute a deliberate attempt to circumvent the regulations, and there were mitigating circumstances [the wording is nuanced, but I note that the FIA's decision specifically emphasized that there is only one penalty for this violation, and mitigating circumstances are not applicable].

We apologize to Lando and Oscar for today's points loss, which occurred at a critical moment in their championship campaigns after strong performances all weekend. As a team, we also apologize to our partners and fans, whose support means so much to us.

While this result is extremely disappointing, we remain fully focused on the final two races of the season."
