I was on a walking tour this morning of Benicia, a small town in California with a bit of history. There are several historic buildings in town, each with a bronze plaque describing why it is important.

Then, I saw this sign and thought to myself, this is odd enough to qualify for this thread.

This speed limit sign of 17.3 mph has a subtle psychological impact.

Many, many years ago, I took over a new position in my company. I held my first meeting with my new team at 8am the next day. The next morning, half of my team was there on time while the other half strolled in 5 to 10 minutes late. I was a bit surprised but I didn't say anything about it at the time. It was a great group of people and I didn't want to start off on the wrong foot.

At the next staff meeting, I asked my secretary (remember those) to put out the staff meeting memo (remember those) with a start time of 7:54am.

Every single team member was on time for that meeting and for most every meeting thereafter.

The goal is not to get drivers to travel at exactly 17.3 mph, but to disrupt routines - especially frequent visitors - and prompt them to check their speed and surroundings.

BTW, I believe that sign is in Wisconsin.
