Terrible Mic and Call Quality Mr. 12Volt Carplay

Hey guys! Bought a 2011 M3 with the CIC, HiFi speakers that had Mr.12volt installed already. Everything works pretty well except calls over carplay. It seems like the microphone is giving feedback at all times to the person that I am talking to.

They can't hear a single thing I'm saying and there's a ton of interference. It is to the point that even if I say nothing, the automated menus that require audio input think that I am talking even while completely silent.

Not sure which version of Mr.12volt it has, but it is at least 2 years old. Thank you!

Unfortunately this is pretty normal for mr12volt. It is the Achilles heel of an otherwise awesome product.

There is an option to run a mic calibration. Give that a try if you haven't already. It is somewhere in the settings menu.

One other thing I did that MIGHT have made a difference but maybe not: I bought a new mic. I broke the one that came with mr12volt, and just bought the best one I could find with the same input. I think it was $25 on Crutchfield. maybe it didn't make a difference, but people don't mention the poor quality right away like they used to

I'll have to take a look at that. The Mr12Volt for the 997 911 community seems to work better for calls so a bit surprised to hear its normal

I think it's more a firmware issue than a mic issue. I tried another mic also and it sounded the same as my OEM mic (which sounds great on the car's bluetooth). I think that Carplay and Android Auto compress the outgoing voice, especially over wireless, to too great an extent. I just use my car's bluetooth for calls now

The quality from the mic varies. It does some sort of auto-gain I think and also if you take a while between talking it seems to be in some sort of sleep mode (or background noise filtering) so the caller you're on with hears choppyness or cut-outs. There is a Mic volume adjustment setting that seems to be best at about 50%. Sometimes callers report it's perfect sometimes they say it's horrible. It's just another letdown of this overly priced product.

Overpriced compared to what? Is there another carplay unit that outputs audio directly to the most system, and not to AUX?

if its 2 years old, get the P3000. the newest version has improved in-car call quality with OEM mic integration.
