My buddy just upgraded to CA on the 787-- his direct quote is that a monkey could fly it. Standard procedure is pretty much to turn the autopilot on as soon as the flaps are up and leave it on until about a thousand feet on final-- 14-17 hours later. Where's the fun in that?

At that point? You're a systems operator, not a pilot.

Same friend told me, probably 15 years or so ago now, that their chief pilot (Delta at the time) told them that they need to start hand-flying whenever they could. He said it seems that piloting, like other things, was a diminishing skill and they were losing theirs.
Well, I traveled 21,840 miles.

That was 2 miles over, 2 miles back. For 21 years. 🤣
