question on jacking up the M

This may sound silly as most cars I've had in the past have a place by the tire for the jack to safely raise the car.

I need to swap my rims and tires here in the garage and the "jack" points or what I thought were the jack points don't seem like metal/frame area and look to be plastic?

Is this the correct spot for a jack? If not, where do I jack it up to take off a rim/tire?

The shape looks like it will fit nicely with my jack and has grooves but I don't want to damage anything and that piece just doesn't look or feel like it can handle a jack.

can someone please advise? I couldn't find anything under search.

I'm still unclear on where to put the jack stands. I think there's an oil change DIY on here that shows where someone did it. Not sure about the rear though.

The rear jacking point are just slightly in front of the wheels, just in from the rocker panels. The fronts are just slightly behind the front wheels. If you look under the car, you can clearly see where to put the jack.

Be careful with those plastic jack supports on the sides. They can be easily damaged if your jack doesn't mate with them properly. Mine didn't and I've mean meaning to find something to act as an interface, but I was lazy and didn't, and the plastic supports are deformed after several wheel swaps.

I use a hockey puck between the jack point and the cup of my floor jack and all is well.

Good idea. I will call the Hurricane office today to get one. After the way they played last night, I doubt they will be needing a lot of pucks.

I put the jack stands at the suspension pickup points, since that's a reinforced area. Here ya' go: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpost.php?p=3885773&postcount=15

I just put a piece of wood on the jack and use that against the jacking points. Otherwise my jack would damage the side skirts of the car.

I just cut an Al cube that mates perfectly with the jack and the plastic jack mounts on the car. The cube is constrainted on both sides so there is no possibility of if it or the jack sliding to either side while the car is jacked up high. I'll post some pics to illustrate...

those are the pieces. all modern bmw's are the same. problem with them is that tend to fall easily, you do not know that and find out only when trying to use the jack.
