Questions - rims:

I'm completely ignorant on the subject. Thoughts on any of the below would be appreciated.

1. If you put custom rims on your E92, do you void the warranty?

2. Do rims adversely impact re-sale value?

3. Is it true that custom rims throw off the balance of the car and thus negatively impact performance?

4. Do they impact the ride in other ways (assuming that the size is not increased beyond what is already on the car)?

5. Best way to buy: local shop? online? etc.

2. Only if you buy something tasteless.

3. Yes/No. If you get proper sizes, offsets, and tires, you can preserve the balance, or even alter the way the car drives more to your preference. Also, wheel weight is a consideration as well. A heavy wheel can ruin the ride quality and performance of the car.

5. Depends if you have a quality performance wheel shop nearby. There are many good online retailers here.

Personally, the key for me is that the factory wheels are very good as they are, so it's easier to mess things up by getting different wheels. Aftermarket wheels are of course an expression of style and preference, but also keep in mind wheels and tires can greatly affect performance.

An M3 should deserve a high quality wheel, preferably forged and light weight.

Given that I know nothing about the subject, it seems like a high risk proposition. I'd hate to throw the balance off, etc.

You should also keep the factory rims. If you decide to sell/trade the car into a BMW dealer they must have factory rims in order to make it a CPO, if they can't make it a CPO you will get less for it.

I really like the BMS CH blacks - but would have to think about it. Wouldn't go up from 18", either.

As others have said, you can't go wrong with the BMW OEM rims that are offered for the car. The aftermarket is a bit of a minefield, but there is quite a bit of information available and some good suppliers here. The following threads can bring your knowledge level up considerably:

You should check out going with a set of wheels that fit great on your ride! The new BBS CH-Rs are a very nice set of wheels that are aggressive and are lightweight!

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I agree, the CH-Rs are beyond gorgeous. Still, I have some concerns. Namely:

1. I have the 18 inch stock wheel and would prefer not to increase size for a # of reasons that I won't go into. Are these wheels available in 18"?

2. If they are available 18", how do they compare to the 18" stock wheel weight-wise? I've heard that the BBS CH-Rs are very heavy.

The CH-Rs are currently only available in 19" and 20" fitments for your M3. The weights for the 19" fitments range from 25.2 lbs to 26.8 lbs.

That's not too bad in my books.
