Thanks,
I might be leaning towards these, now that they come in my size, and because of this article:

The v730 are definitely a great bang for the buck. Unless you are doing competitive track days where that last second per lap matter I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t run them, they are significantly cheaper than other top tier track day tires like RT660, etc.

So FYI there are also some new Nankang tires (CR-S) that might be the best out of all the 200tw based on preliminary reports but I haven’t checked their pricing. I’m already considering trying the nankang for my next tire though based on a grassroots review my buddy sent me last night that isn’t published yet but is available for their subscribers. Grassroots had the CR-S faster than the RE-71rs and the AO52 in their 3 way test. Their summary of the test was that it was as fast as anything else they had ever tested.

So I recently confirmed that water should not be leaking into the engine bay between the wiper cowl and the cabin filter panel. There's a gasket there but the integrity of the seal depends on pressure from the cabin filter clips. It's not a big deal if you run the engine cover, as water runs off of it and onto the undertray.

I broke the clips on mine trying to install the cabin filter panel over the M3 strut brace, resulting in the same leak. Any interference from the M3 brace hardware with the cabin filter panel also prevented the gasket from sealing properly. I was able to fix it by adding 3/8"x1/4" EPDM door weatherstripping to the cabin filter cowl, where it seals against the top of the profile gasket:

Good info, thanks for sharing it! I’ll have to add some of that weather stripping I think my cowl also has a few broken clips on it. I do run the engine cover as you can see and haven’t had any issues, although I haven’t driving in any significant rain in months because we are in a drought lol

I have been in Europe for a few days and have noticed sort of new bmws (2014+) with the msport package having the bigger brakes M blue calipers on them. These cars are not the 35i’s or m40i’s they are 18i/d and 20i’s. It’s very interesting to notice how the US and European cars differ in small ways.

P.S. Also they small M badges on the side (similar to the m340i)

Any update on the ball joints in your rear suspension? I seem to remember you used Meyle ones for the trailing arms? Mine seem to be failing, especially in my toe arms, after 20k miles/2 years... Though I can see the rubber gaiter on one of the trailing arm joints has split a little - WTF!?

I test fitted those rivet nuts the other day during an M3 sway bar install, and those boys just slip right on out.

Call me ignorant, but how are they held in? Are they mushroomed under the proper torque spec? (if so, what is that torque?)

You can use Tambohamilton method, or borrow/rent/buy a tool like this :

Also interested in updates!

Just picked up an E90 328i myself as a stablemate to our E90 M3. The 328i will be a 100% street car, but a lot of my plans for it were similar to what you've done here. Always gratifying to see people who are like-minded WRT how a car should be. Also got some solid ideas from this thread (e.g. M3 bumper supports and shear plate), so I'm grateful as well and will be following with interest.

Also have a couple of questions:

1. Re. F8x spindles:

When you say dynamic camber, you mean camber curves vs. steering angle, right? Not vs. compression?

Do you know what exactly it is about the F8x spindles that enable this? More caster? Less SAI? I know the F8x spindles yield more static camber, but I hadn't read anything about dynamic camber.

2. Re. the M3 thrust plate: Am I right that the part that you cut off would have bolted to the same points as the V-brace? If so, might it have fit without cutting if you removed the V-brace, or is something else in the way as well?

I have not seen him post in some time. Funny thing is, I got a 328i now as a daily too. Not doing much of anything to it other than swap over my 335i brakes / 340, Front Sway and wheels.

Apologies for bumping the thread for something OP already addressed.

My question:

By the time I posted that, OP had already said:

“...

3- F8X knuckles have a larger SAI angle (SAI = Steering Axis Inclination) to reduce understeer, without getting into too much suspension talk, as it's beyond the scope of this thread. A larger SAI angle will result in negative camber gain when the steering wheel is turned. This allows for running lower static -ve camber to save tyre life, yet by merely just turning the steering wheel, the outside wheel will gain negative camber to give the tyre a full contact patch on the asphalt, which results in more grip, as well as resulting in even tyre wear (reduces the outside tyre shoulder wear that E9X generation is famous for)."
Tried to find the post this was pasted from, and haven't yet. I wonder if whoever wrote it confused SAI with caster. As you steer, caster makes camber go more negative on the outside wheel and more positive on the inside wheel – exactly what you want. SAI makes camber go more positive on both wheels as you steer – good for the inside wheel but bad for the outside wheel, so it's bad overall because the outside wheel is doing most of the work.

However, if it's true that F8x knuckles produce more SAI than E9x M3 knuckles (big IF without measurements posted), it means more negative camber on compression. This is a very good thing – especially for strut suspensions, which are inherently deficient in this department. Camber-on-compression is also much more relevant for track driving than the camber induced by SAI or caster is, just because you get lots of suspension compression but usually not much steering angle in that setting.

There are other effects to SAI changes, like scrub radius and side forces on the strut, but this post is long enough already...

I'd love to figure this out for real, with measurements on F8x and E9x knuckles. I have F8x and E9x M3 knuckles, but not the tools or expertise. If anyone in or near SE PA does, let me know.
